NÜRNBERGER Beteiligungs-Aktiengesellschaft (NÜRNBERGER Versicherungsgruppe)
NÜRNBERGER
NÜRNBERGER is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
For justified third-party claims the insurer pays compensation directly in cash; unjustified claims (including claims unjustified in amount) are defended by the insurer at its own cost, and the insurer is authorised to settle or reject claims on the policyholder's behalf.
Geographic scope
Nationwide
Coverage applies within the geographic borders of Europe, the European and Asian parts of Turkey, and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; extended to further non-European countries listed on a valid Green Card.
Unique selling points
- 100 million EUR combined liability sum insured with up to 15 million EUR per injured person, well above the statutory minimum.
- Mallorca Police for accidents with rental cars abroad is included in the base MTPL cover at no extra cost, in every tariff.
- Optional Foreign Loss Protection settles own-vehicle damage abroad according to German law in 26 European states (Komfort/Premium).
- Optional Fahrerschutz insurance compensates the policyholder driver's own injuries even in self-caused accidents, unlike standard MTPL which only protects other parties.
- Optional Rabattschutz keeps the no-claims class unchanged after the first claim in a calendar year, avoiding a premium downgrade.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€100,000,000
Combined liability sum insured of 100 million EUR per event for bodily injury, property damage and pure financial loss together, with a sub-limit of max. 15 million EUR per injured person; identical for the Kompakt, Komfort and Premium tariffs.
Property damage liability
€100,000,000
Included within the same combined liability sum insured of 100 million EUR per event (personal injury, property damage and pure financial loss together), max. 15 million EUR per injured person; identical across Kompakt, Komfort and Premium.
Defence against unfounded liability claims
Not established from the insurer's documents
The insurer defends unfounded third-party liability claims (including claims unjustified in amount) at its own expense as part of the core MTPL cover; this is separate from the optional Verkehrs-Rechtsschutz (motor legal expenses) product underwritten by NRV, a different insurer.
Green Card / International Insurance Card
Not established from the insurer's documents
If a Green Card has been issued, cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it (unless crossed out); for cross-border travel within the Green Card's area of validity, cover is at least to the level required by the visited country's law.
Schutzbrief (roadside/breakdown assistance)
Not established from the insurer's documents
Optional add-on to MTPL (available on all three tariffs): on-site breakdown assistance up to 200 EUR, towing to the nearest suitable workshop up to 300 EUR (towing costs offset against on-site assistance costs), plus return travel, overnight stays and rental car benefits under further sub-limits.
Fahrerschutzversicherung (driver protection)
Not established from the insurer's documents
Optional rider covering the driver's own bodily injury even in self-caused accidents, as if a third party were liable: lost income up to 1,500 EUR/month, maintenance claims up to 2,000 EUR/month, household help up to 1,000 EUR/month, other increased needs up to 5,000 EUR/month, and disability-related home conversion up to 150,000 EUR; only available with the Komfort and Premium tariffs, not Kompakt.
Kfz-Unfallversicherung (motor accident insurance for occupants)
Not established from the insurer's documents
Separate optional accident cover for vehicle occupants (invalidity and death benefits) that must be explicitly requested; the insured sums are individually agreed per policy and stated in the Versicherungsschein, no standard amount applies.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe, the European and Asian parts of Turkey, and non-European EU territories; the scope of cover follows the minimum legally required in the country visited, but at least the scope of the German contract.
Green card rules
If a Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card) has been issued, cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it unless crossed out; for trips within its area of validity, benefits follow at least the conditions and sums required by the visited country's law.
Driver restrictions
The vehicle may only be used by an authorised driver holding the required driving licence; the policyholder, keeper or owner must not knowingly allow use by an unauthorised or unlicensed driver.
Claim notification deadline
Any event that may lead to a claim must be reported to the insurer within one week; claims made against the policyholder by a third party must also be reported within one week of being raised.
Bonus-malus rules
Contracts are classified into no-claims classes (SF-Klassen) that determine the premium rate, based on the claims history; reclassification takes place annually on 1 January according to the previous calendar year's claims record, with upgrades for claim-free years and downgrades per reported claim according to fixed tables.
