Direct payment

If liability claims are valid, R+V pays compensation directly in cash to the injured third party; if claims are unfounded, R+V defends against them at its own cost, including as to the amount claimed.

Geographic scope

Germany

Cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope follows the legally required cover of the visited country, but at least the contractual scope.

Unique selling points

  • An automatic Leistungsverbesserungsgarantie upgrades existing Pkw, motorcycle and camper policies whenever R+V improves benefits for newly sold contracts.
  • The optional Fahrerschutz-Versicherung pays the driver's own personal-injury claims like a liability insurer, up to 20 million EUR per claim.
  • Long-term claim-free drivers can reach SF-Klasse 45, cutting the liability premium to just 15% of the base rate.
  • The Werkstattservice includes a free replacement car and a three-year repair guarantee when repairs are carried out at an R+V-selected garage.
  • An Eigen-Kollisionsschäden extension covers damage the policyholder causes to their own second vehicle, a loss ordinarily excluded from liability cover entirely.

Legal Defence Against Unfounded Claims

Covered

If third-party liability claims against the policyholder are unfounded, R+V defends against them at its own cost, including where claims are unfounded only as to amount.

Green Card / International Insurance Card Cover

Conditional

Where R+V has issued the Green Card, liability cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it, unless the country name is struck through; the scope follows the level required in the visited country.

Roadside Assistance (Schutzbrief)

Optional

The Schutzbrief is a separate optional contract covering breakdown and accident assistance, including up to 150 EUR for on-the-spot repair, up to 200 EUR for self-organised towing, up to 100 EUR for a locksmith call-out, up to 70 EUR per day (max. 7 days) for a rental car, up to 100 EUR per night (max. 3 nights) for accommodation, and up to 3,000 EUR for trip-abandonment costs or an emergency loan abroad.

Driver Accident Cover (Fahrerschutz-Versicherung)

€20,000,000

The Fahrerschutz-Versicherung is a separate optional contract that pays the driver's own personal-injury damages as if from a liability insurer, up to 20 million EUR per claim, e.g. loss of earnings, home/vehicle adaptation costs and pain-and-suffering compensation (the latter requiring at least a 5-day hospital stay), regardless of the driver's own fault.

Passenger Accident Cover (Insassen-Unfallversicherung)

Optional

The Insassen-Unfallversicherung is a separate optional contract for occupants injured or killed while using the vehicle; benefits (invalidity lump sum per a fixed limb schedule, death benefit, hospital and convalescence daily allowances) follow the sums shown in the policy schedule. Under the lump-sum (Pauschal) system the sum increases by 50% and is divided among two or more occupants, and doubles if the accident occurs abroad where the occupant has no permanent residence.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Liability cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU, at least to the extent of the German contract.

Green card rules

Where a Green Card has been issued, cover extends to the non-European countries printed on it that are not struck through, following the cover level required in that country.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle may only be used by a driver authorised by the person entitled to dispose of it, holding the required driving licence, and not under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants that impair safe driving.

Claim notification deadline

Every claim event that could lead to a payment must be reported within one week; sachschäden expected not to exceed 500 EUR may be settled privately first and only need to be reported if self-settlement is unsuccessful.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums follow a no-claims class (SF-Klasse) system ranging from SF 0 (91% of the base rate) down to SF 45 (15%), with a malus class M (108%); a claim leads to reclassification per fixed step-back tables, and an agreed Rabattschutz lapses once the contract falls below SF 10.
