Direct payment

The insurer settles justified third-party liability claims directly in cash and is authorised to satisfy or defend claims raised against the policyholder in the policyholder's name; it does not reimburse the policyholder but regulates claims directly with the injured party.

Geographic scope

Germany

Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the European Union; the scope of cover follows the level legally required in the country visited, but at least the level agreed in the contract.

Unique selling points

  • Combined liability sum of EUR 100 million per claim event, far above the statutory minimum cover limits.
  • Mallorca cover included as an optional extension for liability when driving a temporarily rented car, motorcycle or camper abroad for up to six weeks.
  • 24-hour breakdown and accident assistance hotline available year-round via the Autoschutzbrief.
  • WerkstattBonus offers a 20% premium discount for accepting a bound workshop network under Kasko.
  • No-claims-class protection add-ons ('Rabattretter' and 'Rabattschutz') can shield policyholders from a full premium downgrade after a claim.

Coverage limits

Bodily Injury Liability

€15,000,000

The policy provides a sum insured of EUR 15 million for bodily injury claims, within the overall combined (pauschal) sum of EUR 100 million per claim event covering bodily injury, property damage and financial loss together.

Source

Property Damage Liability

€100,000,000

A combined (pauschal) sum insured of EUR 100 million per claim event applies across bodily injury, property damage and pure financial loss claims together; no separate sub-limit for property damage alone is stated.

Defence Against Unfounded Claims

Covered

If claims made against the policyholder are unfounded, in whole or in part, the insurer defends against them at its own expense; the AKB does not state a separate sum insured or cap for this defence cover.

Green Card / International Motor Insurance Card

Covered

If the insurer has issued an international insurance card (Green Card), liability cover also extends to the non-European countries listed on it, unless the country name is struck through; the scope of cover then follows the destination country's legally required level.

Autoschutzbrief (Roadside Assistance)

Optional

Roadside and breakdown assistance is provided under the separate, legally independent 'Autoschutzbrief' contract (with Kasko-Anbindung), covering help after breakdown or accident, towing, recovery, replacement transport and a 24-hour service line; it is not automatically included in the MTPL contract but sold alongside it.

Driver Accident Cover

Optional

No limit stated

Accident cover for the driver is offered under the separate Kfz-Unfallversicherung contract (A.4) and/or the 'Fahrerschutz' surcharge module listed among the add-on options; sums insured are set individually on the policy schedule and are not stated in the general sources.

Passenger Accident Cover

Optional

No limit stated

Accident cover for vehicle occupants is provided under the separate Kfz-Unfallversicherung contract (A.4, Pauschal- or Platzsystem); sums insured are agreed individually per the policy schedule and are not stated in the general sources.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover under the motor liability policy applies within the geographic borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope of cover follows the level legally required in the country visited, but at least the level agreed in the contract.

Green card rules

If the insurer has issued an international insurance card (Green Card), cover also extends to the non-European countries listed on it, unless the country name is struck through.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle may only be used by an authorised driver who uses it with the knowledge and consent of the person entitled to dispose of it, and only with the driving licence required for that vehicle class; 17-year-olds under the 'begleitetes Fahren' scheme may only drive accompanied by a person named on their certificate, and not if that companion is impaired by alcohol or other intoxicants.

Claim notification deadline

Any event that could give rise to a claim must be reported to the insurer within one week; if a claim is asserted against the policyholder by a third party, this must also be reported within one week of the claim being raised.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums follow a no-claims class (SF-Klasse) system based on claim-free years, with annual reclassification each January, defined downgrade steps per claim, and optional add-ons such as 'Rabattretter' (limited downgrade protection from SF 25 upward) and 'Rabattschutz' (surcharge-based full downgrade protection from SF 4 upward).
