Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured (or their legal successors in case of death) must contact the emergency call centre immediately before inpatient treatment begins, before repatriation transport, before burial or repatriation of remains abroad, and when accompanying children or care-dependent persons can no longer be looked after.

Unauthorized treatment

If a duty is breached intentionally, no benefit is payable; in case of gross negligence the benefit can be reduced proportionately to the severity of fault, unless the insured proves the breach was not grossly negligent.

Purchase while abroad

Insurance cover begins at the agreed contract start, but at the earliest with the start of the respective trip; cover therefore cannot be obtained retroactively for a trip already underway before the contract began.

Chronic conditions

Treatments that were the reason for the trip or that the insured already knew before departure would be required during the trip (e.g. dialysis) are excluded, unless the trip was necessitated by the death of a spouse, partner or first-degree relative.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications, medically necessary terminations, delivery and treatment of premature newborns are covered up to and including the 36th week of pregnancy; if pregnancy began during the trip, up to 5 prenatal check-ups and 2 ultrasound examinations are also covered.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Treatments that were a reason for the trip or already known before departure as necessary during the trip are excluded from cover.

Coverage duration limit

Cover applies for a maximum of 45 days per trip; for longer trips, medical cover ends after the first 45 days of the trip.
