Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The T&C do not state a mandatory deadline for calling the 24h emergency hotline; the policyholder must, however, cooperate fully by keeping damage to a minimum, providing complete information, and supplying proof of the trip start date on request under Ziffer 6.

Unauthorized treatment

If the policyholder grossly negligently breaches an obligation, the benefit is reduced proportionally to the degree of fault; in cases of intentional breach, the insurer can refuse the benefit entirely, unless the breach had no influence on the occurrence or assessment of the claim.

Purchase while abroad

An Auslandskrankenversicherung can be concluded up until the start of the trip, but not once the trip has already begun.

Chronic conditions

Treatment needs identified by a doctor before departure for an existing illness are generally excluded, but coverage still applies if the illness worsens unexpectedly during the trip.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications, medically necessary termination, miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth before the 37th week are covered; complications arising from travelling against a doctor's advice are excluded, and delivery after the 36th week without complications is not covered.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Illnesses for which a doctor determined before travel that treatment or medication would be needed during the trip are excluded, unless the condition unexpectedly worsens during the trip or the trip is due to the death of a close family member.

Coverage duration limit

Coverage is limited to the first 31 days of a single trip abroad; it can be extended without a new contract if the insured is medically unfit to travel or the return journey is impossible for reasons beyond their control, and the contract automatically ends 31 days after the trip begins without any need for cancellation.
