Generali Deutschland AG
Generali
Generali is a travel insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
For inpatient hospital treatment covered under the policy, Generali (via its assistance partner) provides a direct cost-coverage guarantee to doctors and hospitals, so the insured generally does not need to pay upfront in these cases.
Geographic scope
Worldwide, excluding Germany and the country of the insured person's habitual residence
Coverage applies to foreign trips worldwide except Germany and the country where the insured person has their habitual residence; persons relocating to another EU/EEA state or Switzerland can remain insured but are not covered there or in Germany.

Coverage limits
Medical expenses abroad
Covered
Generali reimburses expenses for medically necessary treatment due to illness or accident occurring abroad; no overall maximum sum insured is stated for outpatient/inpatient treatment in the policy text.
Emergency medical treatment
Covered
Covers medically necessary emergency treatment for illness or accident abroad, including free choice of doctors and hospitals in the destination country.
Hospitalization costs
€1,500
Covers medical treatment, meals and accommodation during hospital stays abroad, plus accommodation of an accompanying person for insured children up to 17. Instead of benefits in kind, the insured may opt for a hospital daily allowance of EUR 50/day, capped at EUR 1,500 per insured event, if Generali is informed before treatment begins.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
Covers treatment by freely chosen doctors, dentists and physiotherapists, prescribed medicines, dressings and remedies, and simple aids needed for the first time; no stated overall cap.
Emergency dental treatment
Covered
Covers pain-relieving dental treatment including plastic fillings, simple provisional dentures/crowns, and simple repairs of dentures/crowns; new dentures, crowns, inlays/onlays, prophylaxis and orthodontics are excluded.
Local medical transport
Covered
Covers medically necessary transport to the nearest suitable hospital or emergency doctor, transfer to a more suitable hospital if required, and transport back to accommodation after hospital treatment, including for an accompanying person.
Medical repatriation / evacuation
Conditional
Covers repatriation from abroad to a place of choice in the country of last habitual residence if medically sensible and justifiable, if hospitalization would exceed two weeks, or if treatment costs abroad would exceed repatriation costs. A precondition is that the insured is fit to travel and that Generali organizes the repatriation.
Repatriation of remains / burial abroad
Covered
In case of death, covers either burial abroad or transfer of the deceased to a place of choice in the country of last habitual residence, subject to an official or medical certificate of the cause of death.
Search, rescue and recovery costs
€2,500
Covers accident-related search, rescue and recovery of the insured person by a public or private rescue service up to EUR 2,500 per insured event.
Pre-existing / foreseeable conditions
Excluded
Generali does not pay for treatments whose necessity was already established by medical diagnosis before the trip began, unless the death of a spouse or first-degree relative was the sole reason for the trip; an unexpected acute worsening of health during the trip remains covered even for a pre-existing condition if fitness to travel existed at departure.
Pregnancy complications
Covered
Covers medically necessary outpatient/inpatient treatment for pregnancy complications, delivery in case of premature birth (up to end of week 36) including care of mother and newborn, treatment for miscarriage, and non-unlawful medically necessary termination. A normally progressing pregnancy and antenatal care are excluded; cover is also excluded if the trip was undertaken against medical advice.
Personal liability abroad
Excluded
Personal liability cover is not part of this travel medical product; the exhaustive benefits catalogue in the AVB does not list liability protection.
Legal assistance referral
Covered
As an assistance service, Generali provides information on options for legal representation abroad; this is an informational referral service, not legal cost coverage.
24/7 telephone assistance
Covered
Generali provides a year-round 24-hour telephone assistance service covering vaccination advice, doctor/hospital referrals, translation of medical documents, delivery of medicines, and coordination of hospital cost-coverage guarantees.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The policy does not specify a fixed number of hours to contact Generali, but repatriation, luggage return, vehicle return and hospital cost-coverage guarantees are only paid if organized in advance by Generali.
Unauthorized treatment
If a medical repatriation, luggage recovery, vehicle recovery, or hospital daily-allowance election is not organized/notified to Generali in advance as required, the corresponding benefit is not payable.
Purchase while abroad
No cover applies for a trip already underway before the application was sent; if the application is sent after a trip has begun, coverage only starts with the next new trip.
Chronic conditions
Treatment needs already foreseeable/diagnosed before departure, including for chronic conditions, are excluded, but an unexpected acute worsening of a chronic condition during the trip remains covered if the insured was fit to travel at departure.
Pregnancy
Complications, miscarriage and premature birth (up to week 36) are covered, but a normally progressing pregnancy, antenatal care, and cases where the trip was undertaken against medical advice are excluded.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Treatments whose necessity was already established by diagnosis before the trip are excluded, unless the death of a spouse or first-degree relative was the sole reason for travel.
Coverage duration limit
Cover applies to the first 60 days of each private or business trip abroad within the contract period; if the trip must be extended beyond 60 days for medically necessary treatment, cover continues only as long as return travel is not medically advisable.
