Key conditions
Driver age experience limit
Open driving covers any driver aged 30 to 70 with a full clean driving licence (up to 6 penalty points with no more than 2 offences). Driving other cars extension is available on request for policyholders over 25 years of age only, providing third party cover when driving another private car. Temporary additional drivers may be added free of charge for up to 30 days provided the person is over 25 years of age, holds a full driving licence and is claim/convictions free. All drivers must hold a valid licence to drive the vehicle (general condition 1d). Open driving endorsements (PC3/PC4) restrict cover to drivers aged 25–70 who hold a full EU or full UK licence. Learner permit holders must at all times be accompanied by a full driving licence holder. Named drivers outside the age band 25–70 must be specifically named in the schedule. An additional excess of €100 applies for all named drivers under 25 years of age (March 2023 wording). The January 2025 wording states the excess is as shown on the schedule without a fixed additional amount stated in the main text; drivers must hold the appropriate full driving licence. Open Driving (optional) covers drivers aged 25 to 70 holding a full EU/EEA or recognised licence exchange state driving licence. Third party cover while driving other cars requires the driver to be aged 25 or over.Standard open driving (Endorsement 19) covers full licence holders between ages 25 and 71 with the insured's permission. Higher excess applies for accidental damage claims when the insured car is driven by any learner permit or provisional licence holder or driver under 25. Drivers outside 25–71 range can be specifically included by endorsement (Endorsement 10). Third party driving of other cars and comprehensive cover for a temporarily borrowed car also require the driver to be aged 25–71 with a full licence.
Repair network requirements
Allianz operates an Aligned Repairer network for claim settlements. Using an Aligned Repairer provides direct billing, a Class B courtesy car for up to 7 days, and a 3-year warranty on all repair work. For windscreen claims, use of an aligned repairer means no excess and no impact on No Claims Bonus; a non-aligned repairer results in a payment limit of €425. For general repairs, a non-aligned repairer requires an estimate to be submitted to Allianz. No obligation to use aligned repairers, but benefits are reduced for non-aligned repairers.Repair or replacement of the car is carried out using a motor garage and/or repair service of Aviva's choice (Aviva Motor Services). If Aviva elects to pay a cash settlement, the amount will not exceed the cost stated by Aviva's repair service to repair or replace the car. If the policyholder chooses not to use an aligned repairer, an additional excess of €1,000 applies per event (endorsement PC76). Courtesy car is only provided when using Aviva Motor Services. When using an AXA Approved Repairer, windscreen/glass cover is unlimited, a replacement car is provided, repairs carry a minimum three-year workmanship guarantee, and the policyholder can reduce their excess by €100. If the policyholder chooses their own repairer, glass cover is limited to €400 (€50 for repair only), and AXA will only pay what the AXA engineer estimates the repair would have cost at an approved repairer.FBD operates a nationwide network of recommended repairers. Use of the approved repairer network attracts a reduced policy excess (amount recorded in schedule) and on private car policies extends car hire cover to up to 25 days per claim. If the policyholder chooses not to use the recommended repairer, the maximum payable is the equivalent cost of using FBD's recommended repairers as determined by the motor assessor. For windscreen claims not using the approved supplier, replacement is capped at €223 and chip/crack repair at €30 total.

Deductible rules
Standard motor excess is €250; the applicable excess may vary depending on the type of loss or policy. No excess applies for windscreen claims processed through an Aligned Repairer network. Voluntary and compulsory excess amounts are detailed on the individual policy schedule. Higher excess results in lower premium. The standard accidental damage excess is €300 (endorsement PC14/PC76). This can be reduced to €125 for an additional premium or increased to €600 for a premium reduction. An additional policy excess of €2,500 applies (endorsement PC99) where any driver covered under the policy has received penalty points that have not been disclosed to Aviva. If a non-aligned repairer is used for claims under Section 1, an additional excess of €1,000 per event applies. No excess applies to fire, lightning, explosion, theft or attempted theft claims, or to windscreen repair (no excess for repair; excess applies for replacement under January 2025 wording). No excess applies to Section 9 Extra Benefits or Section 10 Motor Rescue claims. The excess is not recoverable by AXA on the policyholder's behalf from third parties. Reducing the excess by €100 is available when using an AXA Approved Repairer (not available to DriveFirst policyholders per March 2023 wording). The excess is the part of a claim cost the policyholder must pay. Amounts vary by claim type and are recorded in the policy schedule. Standard excess applies primarily to accidental damage claims. Higher excess applies where the insured car is driven by a learner/provisional licence holder or driver under 25. On private car policies, a reduced excess applies where FBD's approved repairer network is used (amount in schedule). Proof and next steps
Direct payment policy
Allianz settles repair claims directly with Aligned Repairers when the policyholder uses an approved garage. Direct billing is provided and no upfront payment is required by the customer for repairs carried out through the Aligned Repairer network.Aviva may at its sole discretion repair or replace the car using a repair service of its choice, or pay a cash amount not exceeding the amount its repair service states it would cost to repair or replace the car. Cash settlement will not exceed current market value even if the sum insured is higher. Where repairs are carried out by Aviva Motor Services, a courtesy car is provided; no courtesy car is provided if a non-approved repairer is used.Claims are handled by AXA directly; AXA may take over and deal with the defence or settlement of any claim in the name of the insured driver. AXA may settle third-party claims without the policyholder's permission where required by law.Claims are settled by repair, reinstatement or replacement of the insured car at FBD's option, or by cash payment. For total loss, the maximum paid is the market value of the insured car immediately prior to loss or damage, less any residual salvage value. Repairs are arranged through FBD's network of recommended repairers; if you prefer not to use them, the maximum paid is the equivalent cost of using FBD's recommended repairers as determined by the motor assessor. For hire purchase, lease or finance agreements, payment is made to the owner named in the agreement.
