Regulatory updates
In March 2026 the boards of MPS and Mediobanca approved a merger by incorporation of Mediobanca into Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena; as part of the related reorganisation, the financial advisor networks and retail/affluent wealth management activities of Mediobanca Premier and Banca Widiba will be integrated, and the Banca Widiba brand is set to disappear, being absorbed under the Mediobanca brand by the end of 2026, consistent with MPS's 2026-2030 Industrial Plan. Separately, a Bank of Italy inspection previously flagged anti-money-laundering risks linked to Widiba's fully remote, financial-advisor-driven client onboarding model, though no sanction had resulted from it.
