Overview

Zevenwouden is a Frisian mutual ("onderlinge") non-life insurer that originated in 2012 from a merger of Algemene Friese Onderlinge and Leeuwarder Onderlinge Verzekeringen U.A. It does not sell insurance directly to consumers but only offers insurance through authorized agents (gevolmachtigde agenten), primarily via its own agency Noorderlinge verzekeraars. As of 1 July 2026 its insurance portfolio was transferred to Goudse Schadeverzekeringen N.V. (De Goudse), with the brand continuing regionally as "De Noorderlinge".

Regulatory updates

In early 2026 it was announced that De Goudse Verzekeringen would take over the insurance portfolio of AFOS Zevenwouden U.A. including its authorized agency Noorderlinge verzekeraars, with Zevenwouden and Noorderlinge continuing under the name De Noorderlinge. The acquisition was subject to approval by regulators including DNB and the AFM, with an intended transfer date of 1 July 2026. The transaction closed as planned: the insurance portfolio of AFOS Zevenwouden U.A. was taken over by Goudse Schadeverzekeringen N.V. as of 1 July 2026, changing the risk carrier of the policies, while premiums, coverage and terms of existing policies remain unchanged. As of 1 September 2026, Janwillem Swart became director of De Noorderlinge, succeeding Bernardo Walta (Director Commerce at De Goudse), who had temporarily held the role; Swart previously worked as Senior Manager Commerce at Nh1816. Zevenwouden's insurer identity (DNB relation number W0174, AFM license 12000489, Kifid registration 200.000111) remains on file as the legacy risk carrier during run-off.
