Allianz Nederland Groep N.V.
Allianz Assistance
Allianz Assistance is a travel insurance for the Netherlands market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
If hospital admission is required, Allianz Assistance can guarantee or advance payment directly to the hospital, if accepted, up to the maximum reimbursement for Medical Expenses.
Geographic scope
Policyholder selects either Europe (incl. Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, non-European Mediterranean countries, and Russia up to the Urals/Caucasus) or Worldwide cover at inception.
Cover also applies within the Netherlands during multi-day trips with accommodation (hotel, port, camping/bungalow park) or when a domestic leg is part of a foreign trip; SOS Autohulp only applies in countries listed on the vehicle's international insurance card (green card).
Unique selling points
- No stated ceiling on necessary emergency medical costs incurred abroad, unlike many policies with a fixed medical sum insured.
- The statutory deductible (eigen risico) of the Dutch basic health insurance is reimbursed as part of the Medical Expenses cover.
- 24/7 multilingual assistance centre that can guarantee or advance hospital payments directly, avoiding upfront out-of-pocket costs.
- Optional DAS legal assistance module offers unlimited cover for in-house DAS specialists and cost-price reimbursement for external lawyers within Europe.
Coverage limits
Medical expenses abroad
Covered
Necessary and reasonable (Dutch standard) costs of emergency medical treatment abroad, with no stated ceiling ('necessary costs'); in the Netherlands medical costs are capped at €1,000 and follow-up treatment costs at €1,000.
Emergency medical treatment during the trip
Covered
Covers necessary emergency transport to a local doctor/medical facility and the reasonable and customary costs of treatment for a sudden, unexpected illness, injury or medical condition (including epidemic/pandemic diseases such as COVID-19) arising during the trip.
Hospitalization
Covered
Included within Medical Expenses cover; if hospitalized, Allianz can guarantee or advance payment to the hospital up to the maximum reimbursement for Medical Expenses; no separate ceiling stated beyond 'necessary costs'.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
Outpatient emergency medical treatment abroad is covered under the general Medical Expenses clause as 'necessary costs', with no separate stated ceiling.
Emergency dental costs
€500
Emergency dental treatment costs abroad are capped at €500; the same €500 cap applies to dental costs incurred in the Netherlands.
Medically necessary local transport
Covered
Necessary costs of medically necessary transport to the nearest hospital by taxi, ambulance or air ambulance, no stated ceiling ('necessary costs').
Emergency medical evacuation
Covered
If local medical facilities cannot provide appropriate care, Allianz arranges and pays the necessary costs of transport to the nearest suitable hospital and a medical escort if needed, subject to prior authorization by the assistance centre.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
Necessary costs of transporting the deceased's remains to a funeral home near the home address or a chosen location in the Netherlands, no stated ceiling ('necessary costs'), subject to prior authorization.
Search and rescue costs
Covered
Necessary costs of professional search and rescue if reported missing or in need of rescue during the trip, no stated ceiling ('necessary costs').
COVID-19 / epidemic-pandemic illness treatment
Covered
Epidemic/pandemic illness such as COVID-19 is explicitly included as a covered event under Medical Expenses and SOS Assistance (and under Cancellation, Interruption); the general pandemic exclusion does not apply where explicitly named under these covers.
Pre-existing medical conditions
Excluded
General exclusion: any damage, condition or event that was already known, foreseeable or to be expected at the moment the policy was taken out or the trip was booked is excluded.
Winter sports cover
Optional
Optional module 'Wintersport en Risicosporten' must be selected on the policy schedule; if selected, standard covers (medical, baggage, accidents etc.) also apply while practicing winter sports, plus €500 for missed pre-paid sports activities and €500 for rental of replacement sports equipment. Recreational diving, cross-country skiing, skating and sledding are included by default without this module.
Adventure / risk sports cover
Optional
Optional module 'Wintersport en Risicosporten' covers higher-risk sports (e.g. mountaineering, climbing sports, bungee jumping, skydiving, paragliding, ice climbing, diving beyond 40m) only if explicitly added to the policy; otherwise excluded under general exclusion 9.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Normal pregnancy or delivery without complications is generally excluded; complications during pregnancy are not subject to this exclusion and would fall under the general 'sudden and unexpected' Medical Expenses cover as necessary costs.
Liability for damage to rented accommodation
€500
The 'Aansprakelijkheid' module (optional, must appear on the policy schedule) covers liability for damage to rented accommodation (incl. a rented safe/locker lost key) up to €500 per event; it is not a general third-party personal liability cover.
Legal assistance
€50,000
Optional 'Rechtsbijstand' module via DAS: unlimited cover for DAS in-house specialists; for external legal help within Europe reimbursement is at cost price; outside Europe (if Worldwide cover selected) up to €50,000 (max €5,000 for contractual disputes); a €250 deductible applies if an external legal provider is engaged.
24/7 travel assistance
Covered
Allianz's assistance centre is reachable 24 hours a day worldwide via a multilingual team, helping find doctors/medical facilities, monitor hospital care, replace lost travel documents, arrange emergency translations and urgent messages.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
Emergencies must be reported as soon as possible: death within 24 hours (phone/e-mail), hospitalization over 24 hours within 7 days of admission, all other claims within 28 days of first returning to the Netherlands (extendable to 180 days for valid reasons).
Unauthorized treatment
Evacuation, repatriation and related transport must be arranged and pre-authorized via the assistance centre; if transport is not approved/arranged by Allianz in advance, reimbursement is limited to what Allianz would have paid had it arranged the transport itself.
Purchase while abroad
Not specifically addressed; the policy only insures Dutch residents registered in the Basisregistratie Personen (BRP) who actually live in the Netherlands, and cover begins on the inception date shown on the policy schedule.
Chronic conditions
Not addressed as a separate category; chronic conditions fall under the general exclusion for damage, conditions or events already known, foreseeable or expected when the policy was taken out or the trip was booked.
Pregnancy
Normal pregnancy or delivery without complications is excluded, except where explicitly listed as an insured event under Cancellation or Interruption cover (e.g. discovering pregnancy after taking out the policy, or medically established complications).
Pre-existing condition exclusions
General exclusion 1 excludes any damage, condition or event that was already known, foreseeable or to be expected at the time the policy was taken out or the trip was booked.
Coverage duration limit
Standard maximum trip duration is 60 consecutive days unless a different number of days is stated on the policy schedule; if a covered event causes this to be exceeded, cover is automatically extended until return or admission to a medical facility becomes possible.
