ING Bank N.V.
ING
ING is a travel insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
After approval from the Alarmcentrale, a guarantee can be issued directly to a medical institution abroad confirming that medical costs will be paid under this insurance, so the insured does not always need to pay upfront.
Geographic scope
Selectable coverage area: Europe or Worldwide
Europe coverage includes the Netherlands (min. one paid overnight stay), Europe including the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Turkey and Greenland, plus the non-European Mediterranean countries Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Cyprus and Tunisia; Worldwide extends this to any country.
Unique selling points
- Standard deductible of €0 on the Baggage module, with the option to select €50 or €100 instead.

- The Medical costs module tops up your Dutch health insurance, including reimbursing amounts that fall under your own health-insurance deductible.
- Telephone and internet costs for contacting the Alarmcentrale are always reimbursed in full, with a 24/7 assistance line for emergencies.
- The policy can be tailored per trip with a choice of Europe or Worldwide cover and add-on modules such as Winter sports, Special sports, Breakdown assistance and Cancellation.
Coverage limits
Medical expenses abroad (supplementary)
Optional
Only in Module Medische kosten
Covers medically necessary treatment costs during the trip that your Dutch health insurance (basic or supplementary) does not reimburse, including amounts falling under your own health-insurance deductible. No separate maximum is stated for costs incurred abroad, but follow-up costs incurred in the Netherlands after the trip are capped at €1,250 and must arise within one year of the illness or accident. Only available if the Module Medische kosten is selected, which automatically also includes the Module Ongevallen.
Emergency or unexpected medical treatment
Optional
Only in Module Medische kosten
The Medical costs module reimburses costs of emergency or unexpected medical treatment during the trip, in addition to (on top of) the traveler's regular Dutch health insurance; the Alarmcentrale must always be consulted first.
Hospitalization and surgery
Optional
Only in Module Medische kosten
Covers costs of hospital admission and surgery abroad as part of the Medical costs module, to the extent not reimbursed by the health insurer. Cover continues beyond the trip or policy duration if the insured must remain in a foreign hospital longer than the trip.
Outpatient medical treatment
Optional
Only in Module Medische kosten
Covers costs of doctor visits, prescribed treatments, examinations, bandages and medicines, and transport to and from the treatment location (in the Netherlands and abroad), under the Medical costs module.
Emergency dental treatment
€500
Only in Module Medische kosten
Covers dental treatment needed as a result of an accident during the trip, up to €500 per insured person, including X-rays, prescribed medicines, and repair of dentures/dental prosthetics; treatment must take place within one year of the accident.
Medical transport
Covered
Only in Module Hulpverlening
The standard Hulpverlening (assistance) cover reimburses necessary extra transport and accommodation costs for the affected insured person and an accompanying person when the insured falls ill or has an accident, including ambulance (aircraft) transport when medically necessary, as determined by the Alarmcentrale's medical advisor.
Medical evacuation
Covered
Only in Module Hulpverlening
Emergency medical evacuation by ambulance aircraft is included in the standard Hulpverlening cover when the Alarmcentrale's medical advisor determines this is medically necessary, judged against what would be considered medically necessary in the Netherlands.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
Only in Module Hulpverlening
If an insured person dies abroad during the trip, the necessary extra costs of transporting the body to the Netherlands (including the coffin required for transport) are covered, or alternatively the costs of a local burial/cremation up to the equivalent repatriation cost, plus travel and accommodation costs for two close relatives to attend.
Search and rescue
Covered
Only in Module Hulpverlening
Covers necessary search, rescue and recovery actions carried out by or on behalf of the competent authorities if an insured person is missing or has had an accident, but only if the action has a reasonable chance of success and there is a reasonable chance the person is still alive.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
No specific COVID-19 treatment provision is mentioned in the sources; general illness would fall under the standard Medical costs / Hulpverlening rules.
Pre-existing medical conditions
Excluded
Medical costs are not covered for treatment that was already known to be needed at the start of the trip or the insurance, or for an illness/condition the insured already had before the trip that caused symptoms which could have been foreseen.
Winter sports cover
€1,500 – €5,000
Only in Module Wintersport
Module Wintersport extends the Hulpverlening cover to accidents/assistance needed during winter sports (alpine skiing, snowboarding, etc.) on marked pistes, and reimburses damage to, or theft/loss of, owned or rented winter sports equipment up to the same insured sum chosen for baggage (€1,500, €2,500 or €5,000 per person per trip), plus unused ski passes/lessons/equipment rental if unable to use due to illness, accident or death. Medical costs during winter sports still require the separate Module Medische kosten.
Adventure / special sports cover
€1,500 – €5,000
Only in Module Bijzondere sporten
Module Bijzondere sporten covers assistance costs and damage to owned/rented equipment (up to the chosen baggage sum of €1,500/€2,500/€5,000) for water sports (rafting, canyoning, kitesurfing), air sports (parachuting, paragliding, hang gliding, ultralight flying, bungee jumping) and guided off-piste skiing, plus unused passes/lessons/rental costs. Genuinely dangerous sports (e.g. unguided mountaineering, combat sports, motorised racing) remain permanently excluded even with this module.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Only in Module Medische kosten
Medical costs related to an existing pregnancy are excluded, except costs resulting from complications of that pregnancy, which are covered provided the complications were unforeseeable and treatment could not be postponed until return to the Netherlands.
Personal liability
Excluded
No general third-party personal liability cover is included in this product. Only liability for damage to the rented holiday accommodation or its contents ("Aansprakelijkheid verblijf") is covered under the Module Bagage, up to the insured baggage sum, provided the policyholder is liable for the damage, has done everything to limit it, can show repair invoices, and it does not concern damage to communal areas.
Legal assistance
No limit stated
No legal assistance module or cover is mentioned anywhere in the terms and conditions or IPID for this product.
24/7 assistance line
Covered
Only in Module Hulpverlening
The Alarmcentrale (+31 70 51 300 90) is available 24 hours a day for both urgent and less urgent situations. The insured must always contact the Alarmcentrale first; it determines which help is given and which costs are reimbursed, and may refuse help or reimbursement if this obligation is not met.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
For urgent matters, contact the Alarmcentrale as soon as possible on +31 70 51 300 90 (available 24/7); you must fully cooperate with and follow the Alarmcentrale's instructions and may not arrange help yourself.
Unauthorized treatment
If you do not meet the obligation to contact the Alarmcentrale first and follow its instructions, the Alarmcentrale may refuse to provide (further) help and refuse to reimburse (further) costs.
Purchase while abroad
A trip is only covered if both its start and end fall within the contract period of the policy; the trip begins the moment the insured and/or their baggage leave the home address, so cover for a specific trip cannot be arranged retroactively once already abroad.
Chronic conditions
Medical costs are not covered if they relate to an illness, condition or disorder the insured already had before the trip that caused symptoms during the trip which could have been foreseen in advance.
Pregnancy
Costs related to an existing pregnancy are excluded, except unforeseeable complications of that pregnancy where treatment could not be postponed until return to the Netherlands, which are covered.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Treatment that was already known to be necessary during the trip at the start of the insurance or the trip is never covered under the Medical costs module.
Coverage duration limit
The insured selects a maximum trip duration of either 90 or 180 consecutive days, as stated on the policy schedule; if a trip unexpectedly lasts longer for a covered reason beyond the insured's control (e.g. hospitalisation), cover continues until return is possible.
