Direct payment

The insured must never provide credit card or payment card details for medical treatment and must not agree to any payment obligation before the insurer's 24-hour medical service has checked and approved the costs. For hospitalisation, the insurer settles bills for inpatient (klinische) treatment directly with the responsible hospitals/insurance bodies on behalf of and instructed by the insured, up to EUR 10,000 for the general ward class.

Geographic scope

Worldwide

Cover applies worldwide for all trips, regardless of transport mode (car, coach, train, plane, ship) or booking method. For domestic trips, cover only applies if there is an overnight stay more than 50 km from the insured's permanent residence.

Starting price

€88

  • A single annual policy covers an unlimited number of trips worldwide for a full year, whatever the mode of transport or booking channel.
  • Family and partner tariffs cover up to five children or two adults regardless of blood relationship or place of residence.
  • 24/7 Dutch/English-speaking medical emergency helpline, with additional dedicated numbers for callers travelling in the Americas and Caribbean.

Coverage limits

Medical expenses abroad

€10,000

The IPID states an overall insured amount of EUR 10,000 per insured event 'unless otherwise stated'; specific service categories within this module carry their own limits (e.g. medical transport abroad is unlimited, search/rescue is subject to a separate limit, repatriation of remains is capped separately). A deductible of EUR 0 or EUR 100 per event applies depending on the chosen tariff (no deductible for ages up to 69/70, otherwise per selected tariff).

Source

Emergency medical treatment

€10,000

Covers necessary medical treatment by doctors, dentists, alternative practitioners, psychotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths (if prescribed by a doctor) for illness or accident occurring during the insured trip, including ambulatory/outpatient treatment and prescribed medicines, subject to the module's overall EUR 10,000 default limit.

Source

Hospitalization (inpatient treatment)

€10,000

The insurer covers the cost of clinical (inpatient) treatment up to a maximum of EUR 10,000 for the general ward class (multi-bed room without extra services); the insurer settles bills directly with responsible parties.

Source

Outpatient/ambulatory treatment

€10,000

Covers outpatient treatment, X-ray diagnostics, prescribed remedies and aids needed as a result of an accident (repairs of glasses, walking aids and prostheses up to EUR 500), within the module's overall default limit.

Source

Emergency dental treatment

€10,000

Covers pain-relieving dental treatment including simple fillings, repairs of dentures/dental prostheses and temporary dentures caused by an accident occurring during a trip abroad, within the module's overall default limit; repairs of dental prostheses due to accident are separately capped at EUR 500.

Source

Medical transport abroad

unlimited

Unlimited coverage for medically justified and reasonable transport by ambulance or aircraft to the nearest suitable hospital or a specialist clinic, and for transport between hospitals abroad.

Source

Medical evacuation/return transport

unlimited

Unlimited coverage of the cost of medically justified and reasonable transport from the place of treatment abroad back to the insured's home country/nearest suitable hospital once transport is medically responsible. The domestic equivalent (return transport cost within the Netherlands) is capped at EUR 10,000 per person per trip.

Source

Repatriation of remains / funeral costs

€5,000 – €10,000

In case of death, covers repatriation of the deceased or a local funeral up to EUR 10,000 outside Europe or EUR 5,000 within Europe; domestic transport of a deceased person is capped at EUR 5,000.

Source

Search & rescue

€5,000 – €15,000

Source

COVID-19 medical treatment

€10,000

The medical expenses module ('inclusief Covid-19 gezondheidsbescherming') covers necessary medical treatment for COVID-19 within the module's overall default limit; the general pandemic exclusion in the policy explicitly does not apply to the travel medical expenses module (though it does apply to a corresponding destination travel warning).

Source

Pre-existing conditions

Excluded

Excludes damage due to causes already known to the insured before the start of the stay abroad, treatments that were the (sole or partial) reason for the trip, and acute worsening or recurrence of chronic or psychiatric conditions.

Source

Winter sports cover

No limit stated

None of the reviewed sources make a specific positive or negative statement about winter sports cover under the medical expenses module.

Source

Adventure sports cover

No limit stated

Not specifically addressed for the medical expenses module. The policy only excludes people exercising certain professional/dangerous occupations (artist, stuntman, professional diver, professional athlete, etc.) rather than recreational adventure sports.

Source

Pregnancy complications

Conditional

Pregnancy check-ups and treatment, including childbirth and abortion, are excluded, unless necessitated by an unforeseen acute deterioration in the health of the mother or the unborn child, in which case they are covered within the module's general limits.

Source

Personal (travel) liability

€1,500,000

Covers third-party liability claims for bodily injury or property damage caused by the insured as a private individual during everyday activities on holiday, up to EUR 1,500,000 per insured event. A separate sub-limit applies to damage to rented accommodation/objects, for which sources give conflicting figures: EUR 100,000 (product summary text) versus EUR 150,000 per insured event and per policy year (Deel 11 §3.2.2 of the 2025 policy conditions).

Source

Legal expenses assistance

Excluded

The policy provides 24/7 'assistance and support' services (arranging doctors, hospitals, medication shipment, informing family, organising travel for relatives) but this is organisational/medical assistance, not a standalone legal expenses insurance benefit. Under the separate liability module, legal defence and litigation costs are covered only within the liability sum insured, not as an independent legal assistance benefit.

Source

24/7 emergency assistance line

Covered

A 24-hour, 7-days-a-week medical alarm/service line (+31 (0)10 313 86 69) is available for emergencies during the trip, with additional dedicated numbers for callers from the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico and other parts of the Americas.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

You (or a fellow traveller) must contact the 24-hour medical service immediately if treatment is needed on the spot, and must not agree to any payment before the medical service has checked the invoiced costs.

Unauthorized treatment

If the medical service is not informed before extensive outpatient or inpatient diagnostic/therapeutic treatment begins, or before a payment commitment is made, the insurer may reasonably reduce the benefit in proportion to the severity of the breach, e.g. for treatment exceeding medical necessity or excessive/inflated billing.

Purchase while abroad

Not addressed in the sources for the medical module; the policy is a continuous annual policy intended to be taken out before departure. For bookings made less than 14 days before departure, the policy (relevant mainly to the cancellation-related modules) must start on the booking date or within 4 working days thereafter for those modules to apply.

Chronic conditions

Sudden worsening or recurrence of chronic or psychiatric illnesses is excluded from cover under the medical expenses module.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy check-ups and treatment, including childbirth and abortion, are excluded unless necessitated by an unforeseen acute deterioration in the health of the mother or the unborn child.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Costs due to causes already known to the insured before the start of the stay abroad, and treatments that were the reason (or one of the reasons) for undertaking the trip, are excluded.

Coverage duration limit

Cover under the medical expenses module generally applies for the first 56 days of each holiday or business trip. If a return is medically impossible, treatment remains covered until transport is medically responsible again, but for no more than 4 weeks beyond the end of the insurance period taken out for that trip.
