COVID-19 treatment

Conditional

COVID-19 is not explicitly mentioned in the policy terms. Pre-existing conditions

Excluded

Medical costs for treatment of conditions that existed before or on the start date of the trip, or that were already known to be required during the trip, are explicitly excluded under the Module Geneeskundige Kosten. Medical costs during winter sports require the optional Module Geneeskundige Kosten.

High-risk sports (risicovolle sporten) are explicitly excluded from all coverage. These include mountain climbing, abseiling, rafting, canyoning, kitesurfing, parachuting, parasailing, hang-gliding, ultralight flying, bungee jumping, and combat sports. Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the OHRA Hulpdienst as soon as possible in the event of an emergency. Failure to comply with this obligation may result in no assistance being provided and no costs being reimbursed. For the Module Geneeskundige Kosten, medical costs must be incurred with the prior approval of the OHRA Hulpdienst.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured does not contact the OHRA Hulpdienst as required, or arranges their own assistance without authorisation, the OHRA Hulpdienst may refuse to provide or continue assistance and refuse to reimburse costs. The insured is also obliged to fully cooperate with the assistance process.

Purchase while abroad

The policy must be taken out before departure. It is not possible to take out or expand the insurance while already on a trip abroad (during the trip you cannot expand the coverage). The insurance is valid for recreational travel and also for internships or study abroad.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases or pre-existing conditions that existed before or on the start date of the trip are excluded under the Module Geneeskundige Kosten. If it was already known before the trip that medical treatment would be required during the trip, no reimbursement is available.

Pregnancy

Costs related to a known/existing pregnancy are not covered under the Module Geneeskundige Kosten. Complications of an existing pregnancy are covered, provided the complications were unforeseeable and treatment could not be postponed until after return to the Netherlands. Pregnancy complications are also a valid reason for cancellation under the Module Annulering.

pre_existing_conditions

Medical costs for conditions that existed before or on the start date of the trip, or for which treatment was already known to be required, are explicitly excluded. Personal assistance (Persoonlijke hulpverlening) is also excluded for events related to a condition for which the insured was already being treated or intended to be treated abroad before the trip.

coverage_duration_limit

The insured is covered for a maximum of 365 consecutive travel days. If the trip unexpectedly lasts longer due to circumstances beyond the insured's control, coverage continues for as long as that situation persists. In the Netherlands, coverage applies only for booked trips with at least one paid overnight stay.
