Direct payment

Colonnade's assistance company can settle bills directly with the treating hospital abroad when the insured is unable to pay for treatment themselves.

Geographic scope

Selectable territorial scope: Europe (plus Algeria, Egypt, Canary Islands, Morocco, Russian Federation, Tunisia, Turkey), Worldwide excluding the USA, Canada and listed Caribbean countries, or Worldwide including all countries

Coverage always excludes the insured's country of permanent residence and the country where the insured pays statutory health insurance; the trip-cancellation cover applies worldwide including the home country.

Unique selling points

  • The Platinum tier covers medical expenses abroad up to EUR 10,000,000 per policy, far above typical market minimums.
  • Direct billing with hospitals abroad means insured travellers often don't have to pay medical bills upfront.
  • An interest-free emergency loan of up to EUR 1,000 is available if the insured is left without funds due to theft or robbery of their luggage.
  • Cover is available to travellers of any age, with no upper age limit on the base policy.
  • A broad set of optional add-ons - manual work abroad, extreme sports, pets, roadside assistance and rental-car excess - lets travellers fully tailor the policy to their trip.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must immediately contact the 24/7 assistance line for any outpatient treatment exceeding EUR 200, hospitalization, transport, repatriation of remains, or arranging a companion, and must obtain its consent.

Unauthorized treatment

The insurer may reasonably reduce or refuse the claim if the insured does not contact the assistance service or does not follow its instructions when required to do so.

Purchase while abroad

The policy must normally be concluded before departure and at the latest before crossing the Slovak state border; taking out the policy after the trip has already started requires the insurer's prior consent.

Chronic conditions

Claims connected with a health condition, injury or illness that existed before the policy was concluded are excluded, except for a stabilized chronic condition of the insured or fellow traveller.

Pregnancy

Complications arising after the 26th week of pregnancy, including childbirth, are excluded. Medically indicated termination of pregnancy is covered subject to specific gestational-week limits (12 weeks for health reasons, 24 weeks for genetic reasons, no limit if the mother's life is at risk).

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing health conditions are excluded unless they qualify as a stabilized chronic condition, i.e. no medication change, hospitalization or acute treatment was needed in the 9 months before the policy start and there were no signs of deterioration.

Coverage duration limit

This single-trip product does not itself impose a maximum trip length; Colonnade recommends it for travellers making 1-2 trips a year, and recommends its separate annual policy (with a 120-day per-trip cap) for more frequent travellers.
