COVID-19 treatment

Conditional

Based on a public commitment by ČSOB Poisťovňa, medical expenses related to COVID-19 illness are covered up to 100,000 EUR in all countries regardless of their risk classification, for both existing and new clients until 31 December 2024 or until further notice. Costs of accommodation or return travel in case of ordered quarantine are also covered.

Pre-existing conditions

Excluded

Explicitly excluded from medical expenses coverage. The policy does not cover treatment related to any illness or injury that existed at the time of concluding the policy, or which in the 12 months prior to departure required hospitalisation, had a progressive character, or required a change in treatment or medication. Stable chronic conditions that did not require hospitalisation or change in treatment in the preceding 12 months are therefore not automatically excluded.

Coverage for risky sports and activities can be arranged by selecting the appropriate trip purpose (risky activities or risky sports) at an additional premium. Dangerous sports (e.g. off-piste skiing, base jumping, diving below 10m without instructor, professional competitions) are entirely uninsurable and cannot be added.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the assistance service (+421 2 4445 0050) immediately upon the occurrence of any insured event (illness, injury, or loss) requiring medical care abroad, or as soon as circumstances permit. If objective conditions do not allow contact before receiving treatment, the insured must contact the assistance service as soon as conditions allow. Failure to contact the assistance service may result in a reduced or fully denied claim.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured obtains medical treatment without prior authorisation from the assistance service when such authorisation was possible, or if the insured refuses medically possible repatriation, the insurer is entitled to reduce or deny the claim. Treatment costs incurred abroad after the insurer approves continued treatment in lieu of repatriation are capped at the estimated repatriation cost.

Purchase while abroad

Short-term travel insurance can only be concluded while the insured is in Slovakia. Purchase from abroad is permitted only if the new policy directly and continuously follows a prior travel insurance policy with the same insurer, i.e. to extend existing coverage without a gap.

Chronic conditions

Chronic disease is defined as a condition that existed before departure and which, during the preceding 12 months, required hospitalisation, worsened, or caused a material change in medication. Treatment of chronic diseases meeting this definition is excluded from medical expenses coverage. Acute exacerbation of a stable chronic condition may be covered if the condition was stable and did not meet the exclusion criteria.

Pregnancy

Medical expenses coverage applies to pregnancy complications only up to the end of the 26th week of pregnancy. After the 26th week, all pregnancy-related costs including childbirth, complications, and emergency delivery are excluded. Pregnancy complications up to the 26th week may also be covered under trip cancellation add-on insurance (storno poplatkov) if hospitalisation is required.

pre_existing_conditions

Treatment of any illness or injury that existed at the time the policy was concluded is excluded. Additionally, treatment of chronic or other conditions that, in the 12 months before departure, required hospitalisation, had a progressive character, or required changes in treatment or medication is excluded. Conditions that were stable and did not require any of the above in the past 12 months may be covered if an acute event arises during the trip.

coverage_duration_limit

Short-term travel insurance is concluded for a specific number of days, up to a maximum of one year (365 or 366 days). If the insured is hospitalised due to an insured event and cannot return to Slovakia by the end of the policy period, the insurer automatically extends the coverage by up to 3 calendar days immediately following the day the insured is discharged from hospital.
