  • 24/7 assistance services via Europ Assistance are included in the base price of every package, including direct payment of medical costs at facilities worldwide so the insured never pays out of pocket.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of an insurable event, the insured is obliged to immediately contact the insurer or assistance company by telephone and request approval for: complex or repeated outpatient procedures; payments exceeding 300 EUR; hospitalisation; insurable events on trips outside Europe; and arrangements for transport back to Slovakia. Exceptions are unforeseeable emergency outpatient treatments or medical aid required to avert an acute life- or health-threatening danger.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured fails to follow the instructions of the insurer or its foreign representative (assistance company), the insurer has the right to reduce or refuse insurance benefit. Costs arising from non-compliance with the insured's obligations (e.g. obtaining treatment without prior approval where required) need not be reimbursed by the insurer. The insurer is not obliged to reimburse the difference between inflated and reasonable costs if the elevated costs resulted from a breach of obligations.

Purchase while abroad

If the insured was not located on the territory of the Slovak Republic at the time the policy was concluded (or is unable to prove this) and the new insurance does not directly follow the expiry of a previous policy with the insurer, the insurance cover commences at the earliest on the 6th day after the date of conclusion of the new insurance contract.

Chronic conditions

A chronic disease is defined as a condition that existed at the time of policy conclusion and, in the preceding 12 months, required hospitalisation, was worsening, or caused material changes in medication. The insurer is not obliged to pay costs arising from treatment of chronic or other conditions that in the preceding 12 months required hospitalisation, had a progressive character, required changes in treatment or medication, or were recurrent in nature.

Pregnancy

Medical expenses coverage explicitly excludes: investigations (including laboratory and ultrasound) for the determination of pregnancy; any complication in connection with pregnancy after the 24th week including childbirth; examination and treatment of infertility; IVF; and cytology. For travel cancellation insurance, pregnancy discovered only after reservation of the trip is a covered cancellation reason. If pregnancy was known at the time of reservation, cancellation is only covered in the event of severe medically certified complications.

pre_existing_conditions

The insurer is not obliged to pay costs of medical care related to an injury or illness that existed, was or could have been identified or was apparent before the commencement of the policy. This includes conditions that were the subject of ongoing treatment, hospitalisation, or medication changes in the 12 months preceding the trip. Medical care whose primary purpose was travel (medical tourism) is also excluded.

coverage_duration_limit

Short-term travel insurance covers a single trip of 1 to 365 consecutive days (366 days in a leap year). The indefinite-term (annual) policy covers the first 45 days of each trip abroad; trips exceeding 45 days can be extended with a short-term policy, but total coverage may not exceed 365 days of stay abroad. For truck/bus drivers, coverage applies to the first 90 days of each trip and cannot be extended.
