Direct payment

The assistance company arranges and, where agreed, directly settles costs with foreign healthcare providers up to the limit of indemnity (payment guarantee); costs paid by the insured out of pocket abroad are reimbursed in EUR after return based on submitted original receipts, converted at the National Bank of Slovakia exchange rate on the date of the insured event.

Geographic scope

Insured may choose either the 'Europe' zone or the 'World' zone at conclusion of the policy

Zone 'Europe' covers geographic Europe plus Turkey, Israel, Tunisia, the Canary Islands, Morocco, all of Cyprus and Egypt (excluding Slovakia and sanctioned countries); zone 'World' covers all countries and territories worldwide except Slovakia and sanctioned countries. Medical expenses cover does not apply in Slovakia, in the insured's country of permanent/temporary residence, or in a country where the insured is a public health insurance participant.

Unique selling points

  • The 'Rodina' option lets up to 2 unrelated adults and 2 children travel and be insured together under a single policy at a preferential family rate.
  • 24/7 assistance is available directly in Slovak or Czech, avoiding language barriers in emergencies abroad.
  • The top Balík L tier provides a medical-expenses sum insured of up to 350,000 EUR, well above many entry-level travel policies.
  • The product is explicitly marketed as available to chronically ill, stabilized clients rather than automatically excluding them.
  • The policy can be configured and purchased entirely online, tailored to the traveler's chosen package and territorial scope.

Source

24/7 multilingual assistance service

Covered

The insurer's contracted assistance company provides round-the-clock support (info before travel, treatment/hospitalization monitoring, locating providers, payment guarantees) in Slovak or Czech.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of a claim, the insured must contact the assistance company for instructions before receiving services; if objective circumstances prevent this, they must do so as soon as the circumstances allow.

Unauthorized treatment

Prior consent of the assistance company is required before undergoing costly diagnostic/treatment procedures abroad (from 100 EUR per procedure) paid out of pocket; the insurer may reduce or refuse indemnity if obligations under the contract/T&Cs were knowingly breached.

Purchase while abroad

The policy can be concluded remotely from abroad; cover then starts, at the earliest, from midnight CET of the day after the proposal is submitted, but the 90-day maximum trip length includes any days already spent abroad before the policy started. Trip-cancellation cover cannot be added once the insured is already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases are covered only if stabilized for the 12 months preceding the start of insurance; if unstabilized, requiring a change of treatment, progression, or hospitalization during that period, related events are excluded.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy after the 26th week, including birth, complications and postnatal newborn care, as well as risk pregnancy and elective termination, are excluded from cover; pregnancy testing costs are not reimbursed.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Illnesses or injuries diagnosed or already showing symptoms before the start of insurance, or within the 12 months before the claim, are excluded from medical expenses cover.

Coverage duration limit

Cover applies to a single trip abroad of at most 90 days without interruption by return to Slovakia; the insured may not be older than 75 at the start of the insurance period, and cover automatically ends 45 days after the trip's start if the insured turns 75 during the trip.
