Groupama Biztosító Zrt. – Insurance Company, Slovenia Branch (Groupama Zavarovalnica)
Groupama
Groupama is a travel insurance for the Slovenia market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The 24/7 assistance centre organizes direct payment guarantees to doctors and medical institutions abroad (cashless treatment) once contacted and prior approval is given. If the assistance centre is not contacted for prior approval where required (hospitalization, emergency medical transport/rescue, repatriation, legal assistance) and this makes it impossible to verify the relevant circumstances, reimbursement for those specific services is capped at EUR 1,000.
Geographic scope
Worldwide for annual multi-trip policies; for single-trip (short-term) policies the policyholder chooses between Europe, 'World-narrow' (world excluding USA, Canada, Greenland, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific islands), or the whole World.
Cover applies only outside Slovenia and outside the insured's country of residence/citizenship; it never applies within Slovenia or the insured's home country. Vehicle repatriation, injured-vehicle-passenger repatriation and roadside information services apply only within Europe, outside the insured's home country. Cover does not apply in countries/regions officially listed as not recommended for travel by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the start of the insurance period.
Unique selling points
- The Premium package provides up to EUR 1,250,000 in emergency medical cover abroad, well above typical entry-level travel policies.
- Cover can be extended, for an additional premium, to individual travellers aged 70 to 80 on the Basic and Comfort packages.
- A wide range of recreational sports - including on-piste and touring skiing, mountain biking, sailing, diving and hiking to 3,500 m - is included at no extra premium.
- A single policy combines emergency medical, accident, baggage, legal-assistance and personal-liability cover, with an optional multi-trip cancellation-cost extension.
- The 24/7 assistance centre arranges direct payment guarantees with hospitals and doctors abroad, so travellers do not need to pay upfront.

Routine management of pre-existing conditions and treatment of conditions already known before the trip is excluded, except where immediate treatment is required to prevent life-threatening or irreversible harm.
Winter sports cover
Covered
Recreational winter sports (skiing on marked pistes, ski touring, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, snow rafting, snowmobiling) are covered without any surcharge, within the standard medical/accident sums insured. Heli-skiing is covered only as an extreme sport if separately agreed and an additional premium is paid; off-piste alpine skiing/mountaineering above 3,500 m and freestyle/ski jumping are excluded.
Adventure / extreme sports cover
Optional
Extreme recreational sports (canyoning, heli-skiing, hydrospeed, scuba diving with an internationally recognized licence to 40 m or under instructor supervision, downhill mountain biking, mountaineering/via ferrata up to 3,500 m or grade D, kitesurfing, ballooning, spearfishing, zip-lining) are covered only if agreed in advance and an additional premium is paid. Professional sports, motorsport, mountaineering above 3,500 m, via ferrata above grade D, caving, aviation, parachuting, hang-gliding, martial arts, ski/acrobatic jumps, ice climbing, bungee jumping, extreme whitewater/high diving, diving without an international licence, freediving, cave diving, extreme/off-track cycling and expeditions to unexplored areas are always excluded, even with a surcharge. Extreme or competitive sports cover cannot be purchased at all for persons aged 70 or over.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Hospital and outpatient treatment related to miscarriage or premature birth up to the 28th week of pregnancy is covered within the general medical expense sum insured; routine prenatal check-ups and childbirth/maternity care after the 28th week are excluded. Unforeseeable pregnancy complications confirmed after the policy start that make travel medically inadvisable also qualify for reimbursement under the trip-cancellation extension.
Personal liability
€10,000 – €60,000
Covers the insured's liability towards third parties for bodily injury or death (including ski-slope accidents) abroad: Osnovni EUR 10,000; Komfort EUR 30,000; Premium EUR 60,000. A separate, lower sub-limit for property damage caused to the accommodation where the insured stays as a guest is available only in the Komfort (EUR 500) and Premium (EUR 1,000) packages; Osnovni does not include this property-damage sub-limit.
Legal assistance

Only in Komfort, Premium
Covers foreign attorney/expert fees for criminal defence or pursuing a liability claim after a road traffic or ski-slope accident abroad with bodily injury: Komfort EUR 3,500; Premium EUR 7,500. Not available in the Osnovni package. A separate bail advance (Komfort EUR 7,500; Premium EUR 15,000) may also be provided, but this is a repayable advance (to be returned within 60 days), not an indemnity payment.
24/7 emergency assistance service
Covered
A 24-hour telephone assistance centre (+386 (0)2 821 6566) is included in all packages, providing medical advice, doctor/hospital referral, payment guarantees to medical providers, and coordination of transport, repatriation, roadside information and interpreting services.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured (or an authorized person) must contact the 24/7 assistance centre within 3 calendar days for prior approval in cases of hospitalization, emergency medical transport/mountain-water-air rescue, repatriation of remains, and use of legal assistance. If the insured is physically unable to do so due to illness or accident, contact must be made within 5 calendar days after this obstacle ends.
Unauthorized treatment
If prior approval from the assistance centre is not obtained for hospitalization, emergency medical transport/rescue, repatriation or legal assistance, and this makes it impossible to verify the circumstances relevant to the insurer's liability, reimbursement for these services is limited to a maximum of EUR 1,000.
Purchase while abroad
The insurance contract may only be concluded before the start of the trip; the policy is invalid if the insured person is already abroad at the time the insurance is taken out.
Chronic conditions
Only an acute, unexpected exacerbation of a chronic condition known before the trip is covered, up to the chronic-condition sub-limit (EUR 7,500/18,750/50,000 depending on package), and only if the insured fully follows the treating physician's instructions (medication, dosage, lifestyle restrictions). Routine management of chronic conditions is excluded.
Pregnancy
Hospital and outpatient treatment of miscarriage or premature birth up to the 28th week of pregnancy is covered; routine prenatal check-ups and childbirth/maternity care after the 28th week are excluded. Unforeseeable pregnancy complications confirmed after policy start that make travel medically inadvisable also justify trip-cancellation reimbursement.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Treatment of illnesses or conditions known before the trip is excluded, except when immediate treatment is necessary to prevent life-threatening or irreversible harm, and even then only up to the chronic-exacerbation sub-limit stated on the policy.
Coverage duration limit
Short-term (single-trip) cover lasts as long as the trip, up to a maximum of 365 days, and may be extended without interruption in increments of at least 5 days if no claim has occurred. Annual multi-trip cover runs for one policy year and auto-renews unless cancelled, but each individual trip abroad is capped at 90 consecutive days.
