Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

Coverage for medical expenses and assistance benefits requires prior authorisation by calling the 24/7 assistance line before receiving treatment. Benefits not requested from the insurer and not organised with its agreement do not entitle to reimbursement. For sinisters occurring after purchase while already abroad, a minimum 72-hour waiting period applies.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical services and guarantees not previously requested from and authorised by the insurer do not entitle to subsequent reimbursement or indemnification, as stated in the COTCARD Diamond benefit table.

Purchase while abroad

The policy can be purchased even after the trip has started; however, a minimum 72-hour waiting period applies to all coverages, and any event occurring prior to purchase is never covered. Trip cancellation and cancellation-of-flight coverage cannot be activated after the trip has begun.

Chronic conditions

For vital emergencies caused by an unforeseeable complication of a chronic or pre-existing disease, only the costs of first emergency medical care within the first 24 hours from the start of treatment at a medical or hospital centre are covered.

Pregnancy

No specific pregnancy complications clause was found in verified COTCARD sources. Coverage may apply to sudden unforeseeable medical emergencies under the general medical expenses guarantee, but no dedicated pregnancy benefit or explicit exclusion was identified.

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing conditions are defined as those diagnosed, under treatment, under study (even without a definitive diagnosis), or that by their characteristics or symptoms could not have gone unnoticed, before policy purchase and/or the trip start date. Coverage is restricted to first emergency care within the first 24 hours for vital emergencies arising from unforeseeable complications.

coverage_duration_limit

Annual multi-trip policies cover trips up to 90 days each within a 12-month period. Single-trip policies can cover up to 365 consecutive days as selected by the insured. The quarantine hotel stay extension coverage is valid only for trips shorter than 30 days.
