Intermundial
Intermundial is a travel insurance for the ES market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Medical and transport provisions must be arranged after agreement between the treating physician and the insurer's medical team. Direct payment is available at partner facilities worldwide. The insurer reimburses only calls made to the designated assistance helpline number. Insured must contact the assistance centre as soon as a covered event occurs.
Geographic scope
Spain (origin), worldwide coverage
Local (same country), Continental (same geographic continent, including Mediterranean rim countries), and Worldwide (different continents). Coverage ends when the insured returns home or is admitted to a health centre within 25 km of their habitual residence (15 km in the Balearic and Canary Islands).
Unique selling points

- Over 30 alternative tourism sports activities (trekking, kayak, surf, snorkelling, cycling, zip-lining and more) are covered as standard with no additional premium, and the Totaltravel (ESC50-S26) tier extends altitude coverage to 5,300 metres for organised recreational excursions.
- 24/7 telemedicine video consultation service included in all tiers: connect with a Spanish-speaking physician via the app in minutes, with electronic prescriptions valid at pharmacies across most EU countries, and no upfront payment required.
- Free 1 GB international eSIM included with Totaltravel (standard) and Totaltravel Premium tiers, providing instant data connectivity at the destination without any additional contract.
- Complimentary airport VIP lounge access on flight delays of over 60 minutes (activated via app QR code), plus built-in EU flight compensation claims management (Servifly service) — unique service features rarely bundled in standard travel insurance.
Coverage limits
Medical and healthcare assistance
Covered
Covers emergency medical team fees, specialist fees, supplementary medical examinations, hospitalisations, surgical interventions, and pharmaceutical costs during hospitalisation. Limits vary by tier and territorial scope: Totaltravel Mini: España 2,500€ / Europa 100,000€ / Mundo 250,000€; Totaltravel Annual (standard tier): España 7,500€ / Europa-Mundo 2,500,000€; Totaltravel (temporal standard): 5,000,000€; Totaltravel Premium: 10,000,000€. In case of an unforeseeable vital emergency arising from a pre-existing chronic or congenital condition, only costs of an initial urgent care intervention within the first 24 hours of hospital admission are covered. Dental costs are limited to 120€ unless otherwise indicated in the particular conditions.
Emergency medical treatment
Covered
Emergency care by medical teams and specialists is expressly included within the medical and healthcare assistance guarantee. Limits are the same as for medical_expenses and vary by tier: Mini (España 2,500€ / Europa 100,000€ / Mundo 250,000€), standard temporal (5,000,000€), Annual standard (2,500,000€), Premium (10,000,000€). Insurer obligations end when the insured returns home or is admitted to a prescribed health centre corresponding to their habitual residence.
Hospitalisation costs
Covered
Hospitalisation, treatments and surgical interventions are expressly included within the medical and healthcare assistance guarantee. Limits follow those of medical_expenses by tier and territorial scope. Hospitalisation is defined as admission to a ward with at least one overnight stay; stays solely in accident and emergency areas are not included. The insurer may extend policy coverage if the insured cannot return on the scheduled date due to an unforeseen accident or illness occurring during the trip.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
Supplementary medical examinations and pharmaceutical costs for injuries or illnesses not requiring hospitalisation are expressly covered within the medical and healthcare assistance guarantee. The same overall limits by tier apply. Pharmaceutical expenses must be prescribed by a physician; the insurer does not cover any medical or pharmaceutical expense below 9€.
Urgent dental care
Covered
Covers urgent dental problems caused by infection, pain or trauma requiring emergency treatment. The default limit is 120€ unless a different limit is indicated in the particular conditions of the policy. Available in all tiers.
Medical transport / repatriation of injured or ill persons
Covered
Covers transfer costs to the nearest clinic or hospital, coordination by the insurer's medical team, and transport of the injured or ill person by the most appropriate means to the prescribed hospital or the insured's habitual residence. The means of transport is decided by the insurer's medical team based on urgency and severity. If the insured refuses transfer on the insurer's terms, all guarantees are automatically suspended. The insurer is subrogated in the rights of the insured for unused return tickets. Unlimited across all tiers.
Medical evacuation
Covered
Medical evacuation is included within the repatriation or medical transport guarantee. It includes transfer to a more appropriate hospital and, where medically required, to the insured's home country. The insurer's medical team determines the mode of transport (including air ambulance if medically justified). Unlimited across all tiers. Note: use of a medical aircraft is specifically stated to be restricted to European countries and Mediterranean rim countries in the Totaltravel Annual Mini IPID.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
In the event of the insured's death, the insurer organises and covers all costs of transferring the body to the place of burial at the insured's country of habitual residence, including post-mortem preparation in accordance with legal requirements. Funeral and burial ceremony costs are not included. The insurer also covers the return of insured family members accompanying the remains. Unlimited across all tiers.
Search and rescue of the insured
Optional
Covers amounts claimed for search operations conducted by community or public/private relief organisations in the event of accident, loss or disappearance of the insured within a ski resort or designated alternative tourism/sports activity area. The first 120€ is borne by the insured. Limit: 15,000€. Only valid if the sports activity extension ('Actividades deportivas de turismo alternativo' or 'Actividades deportivas') has been contracted.
COVID-19 PCR diagnostic test costs during the trip
Covered
If the insured presents symptoms compatible with COVID-19 during travel and a doctor prescribes a PCR test, the insurer reimburses the cost up to 200€, subject to presentation of the test purchase invoice and hospital invoice. Home rapid tests and self-testing are excluded. Additional coverage of up to 1,200-1,500€ is provided for extended stay due to COVID-19 medical quarantine in destination accommodation. Available in standard and Annual tiers. Also available in Premium per IPID.
Pre-existing conditions
Excluded
Pre-existing or chronic conditions (any pathology whose symptoms began before the policy was contracted, even without a definitive diagnosis) are generally excluded. Exception: in the event of a life-threatening vital emergency arising from an unforeseeable complication of a chronic, pre-existing or congenital condition, the insurer covers only the costs of an initial urgent care intervention within the first 24 hours following admission to hospital. For the travel cancellation guarantee, chronic/pre-existing conditions that have suffered exacerbations within the 30 days prior to policy contracting are excluded. In Annual Multi-Trip policies, any condition suffered prior to the trip start date is excluded.
Winter sports cover extension
Optional
Winter sports including skiing, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, ski mountaineering, snowshoes, skijoring, ice skating, crampons on ice and related activities are covered only if the 'Trip with sports activity' extension ('Viaje con actividad deportiva') is contracted and expressly stated in the particular conditions. Without this extension, any sports activity is excluded from the assistance coverage. The extension also activates search and rescue coverage (up to 15,000€, with 120€ excess). Standard Totaltravel base policy does not include winter sports by default.
Alternative tourism sports activities (included without extra cost)
Covered
A broad range of alternative tourism activities are covered as standard without additional premium: running, hot-air ballooning, kayaking, trekking, hiking, snorkelling, surfing, sailing, safari, horseback/camel riding, Segway, helicopter tours, bamboo rafting, elephant rides, land yachting, cycling, zip-lining, assault courses, banana boating, octopush, ringos, sand skiing, wakeboarding, tree canopy walks, swimming with dolphins, wind tunnel flying, zorbing, hydro zorbing, and similar activities, as long as they are not the main purpose of the trip. Activities above 5,000 metres altitude, all aerial sports (except those listed), and underwater activities at depths greater than 30 metres are expressly excluded. Coverage is extended to 5,300 metres for organised recreational tourist excursions meeting specific conditions in the Totaltravel (ESC50-S26) product. Higher-risk sports (professional competitions, motorsports, parachuting, mountaineering, boxing, etc.) require the paid sports extension.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Unforeseeable complications during the first 24 weeks of gestation are covered under the medical assistance guarantee. Pregnancies and births are otherwise excluded. For the travel cancellation guarantee, serious complications or involuntary miscarriage requiring rest or hospitalisation are covered if they arise after the insurance was contracted; complications from the 7th month of gestation (28 weeks) and planned deliveries are excluded. Premature birth before 29 weeks is a covered cancellation cause.
Private civil liability
Covered
Covers monetary compensation the insured may be required to pay for involuntary bodily injury or material damage caused to third parties, their animals or possessions during the trip, in accordance with Articles 1,902–1,910 of the Spanish Civil Code. Limits vary by tier: Totaltravel Annual Mini: 50,000€; Totaltravel Annual (standard) and Totaltravel (temporal standard): 80,000€; Totaltravel Premium: 100,000€. Limit includes court costs and judicial bonds. Excludes: motor vehicle, aircraft or vessel use; firearms use; professional, union, political or associative activities; fines; professional sports and listed amateur sports (mountaineering, boxing, parachuting, polo, rugby, archery, yachting, martial arts, motor sports).
Legal assistance abroad
Covered
Available in Totaltravel (temporal ESC50-S26) and Totaltravel Annual standard/Premium tiers. Includes: advance of criminal bail required abroad (up to 2,000€ for traffic accidents), payment of legal assistance costs incurred abroad (up to 2,000€), claims for breach of purchase contracts abroad (up to 2,000€), personalised legal advice by phone during the trip, drafting of extrajudicial letters and contracts (up to 2,000€), legal advice in proceedings for home occupancy during the trip, and will/testamentary advisory. Amounts advanced must be returned within 30 days. Not present in Totaltravel Annual Mini tier.
24/7 emergency assistance service
Covered
All Totaltravel tiers include a 24/7 emergency telephone assistance service (phone: 910 848 794 from Spain; +34 910 848 794 from abroad). The insured must contact this service as soon as a covered event occurs, stating name, policy number, location, phone number and type of assistance needed. This contact is an essential condition for coverage. The service also includes: telemedicine (video consultation with a physician 24/7 via app, in Spanish, with electronic prescription valid in most EU countries), 'Servihelp' real-time travel alerts and 24h advisory service, and (in Totaltravel ESC50-S26) 'Servibag' luggage tracing service and 'Servifly' flight compensation claims management.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact the 24/7 emergency telephone assistance service immediately upon the occurrence of any covered event. In cases of hospitalisation, any costs incurred that are not duly justified or that could have been avoided — from 24 hours after admission until the insured reports the event — are excluded from coverage. For claims involving delays, robbery or civil liability, specific notification requirements apply within 7 days of becoming aware of the loss.
Unauthorized treatment
Medical and transport provisions must be arranged after agreement between the physician treating the insured and the insurer's medical team. Any medical or transport provisions requested and received by the insured unilaterally, without the insurer's knowledge or authorisation, are not covered by the policy — except in accredited emergencies or force majeure. If the insured refuses transfer at the time and under the conditions determined by the insurer's medical service, all guarantees and resulting costs are automatically suspended.
Purchase while abroad
If the insurance is contracted after the trip has already begun, a 72-hour waiting period applies from the contracting date, and coverage related to theft of insured luggage is null and void during that period. For the cancellation expenses guarantee in the Annual Multi-Trip modality, coverage activates 72 hours after contracting the insurance or booking the trip (whichever is later). In the Temporary modality, cancellation coverage is only valid if the insurance was contracted at the time of travel confirmation or within the following 7 days; otherwise it also has a 72-hour waiting period.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases, pre-existing or congenital conditions and their consequences suffered by the insured prior to the policy taking effect are excluded. However, in a life-threatening vital emergency resulting from an unforeseeable complication of a chronic, pre-existing or congenital disease, the insurer covers only the costs of an initial urgent care intervention within the first 24 hours following hospital admission. In Annual Multi-Trip policies, any condition suffered prior to the trip start date is excluded. For the cancellation guarantee, chronic or pre-existing conditions of all travellers that have suffered exacerbations within the 30 days prior to contracting the policy are also excluded.
Pregnancy
Pregnancies and births are excluded, except for unforeseeable complications in the first 24 weeks of gestation (covered under the medical assistance guarantee). For the travel cancellation guarantee, serious complications or involuntary miscarriage requiring medical rest or hospitalisation are covered provided they arise after the insurance was contracted; complications from the 7th month of gestation (28 weeks) and planned deliveries are excluded. Premature birth before 29 weeks is a covered cancellation cause.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing conditions are defined as any pathology whose symptoms began before the policy was contracted, even if a definitive diagnosis had not yet been reached. They are generally excluded from all coverage. The sole exception is a life-threatening vital emergency arising from an unforeseeable complication, for which only initial urgent care within 24 hours of hospital admission is covered. Prostheses and orthotics expenses are excluded (except crutches covered under guarantee 1.1.48 in standard/Annual tiers). Glasses and contact lenses are also excluded.
coverage_duration_limit
Totaltravel (temporal modality): each trip covered for up to 93 consecutive days (365 days maximum for temporary policies; 120 days maximum for insured parties not resident in Spain). Totaltravel Annual (multi-trip annual modality): covers all trips of up to 90 consecutive days made during one year. Totaltravel Annual Mini: covers trips of up to 90 consecutive days (or as specified in the particular conditions). All other guarantees are only valid while the insured is travelling away from their habitual residence and at a distance greater than that stipulated in the kilometric franchise (25 km from the habitual residence; 15 km in the Balearic and Canary Islands). Coverage ends when the insured returns home or is admitted to a health centre within that radius.
