Direct payment

RACC coordinates and directly pays authorized medical expenses abroad. For non-authorized or reimbursement claims, the member must submit documentation to raccreemborsaments@raccasist.com. RACC does not cover any service or benefit not previously requested through its 24-hour Central de Alarmas (tel. 900 242 242 / +34 93 495 51 51).

Geographic scope

Spain (residence requirement) — coverage active abroad

Travel Complet Europa Puntual: Europe and Mediterranean rim countries only; Travel Plus Puntual and Travel Premium: worldwide. Minimum 25 km from member's home address (10 km on islands). War/conflict zones and countries with Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel warnings excluded (14-day extension if warning issued while already at destination).

Unique selling points

  • Medical expense coverage reaches up to 1,000,000€ per person per claim in the Travel Premium tier — well above the 30,000€ Schengen minimum and competitive with top-tier European travel insurers.
  • RACC coordinates medical transport and repatriation (including medically equipped aircraft when needed) as a direct-payment service with no stated euro cap — the member never pays upfront for authorized evacuations.
  • 24/7 multilingual assistance accessible via phone, WhatsApp (+34 638 220 311) and dedicated mobile app, with an on-call physician and on-call psychologist (Mon–Sun 9–21h) available for consultations.
  • Travel Premium tier includes complimentary access to VIP airport lounges worldwide through the Priority Pass network (1 entry per year per titular).
  • No age limit stated for coverage — all persons are covered regardless of age, unlike many travel insurers that exclude senior travellers or apply higher premiums.

Emergency medical treatment during travel within Spain

Covered

Covers the first emergency medical assistance required as a result of an accident or sudden serious illness occurring during travel within Spanish territory, up to 1,200€ per person per claim. This guarantee is subsidiary to coverage provided by the Spanish Social Security system or other mandatory insurers. All three tiers provide this same limit.

Source

Hospitalization expenses abroad

Covered

Hospital admission costs abroad are covered as a sub-component of the overall medical expenses limit. No separate sublimit is stated; the applicable cap is the overall medical expenses limit for the tier selected (50,000€ / 500,000€ / 1,000,000€). Convalescence accommodation in up to 3-star hotel for maximum 7 nights is also covered when medically prescribed.

Source

Outpatient medical and surgical treatment abroad

Outpatient medical and surgical fees are covered as part of the overall medical expenses limit abroad (no separate sublimit stated). All prescribed medications and vaccines are included. All three tiers cover outpatient treatment within their respective overall limits.

Source

Emergency dental treatment abroad

Conditional

Routine dental treatment and aesthetic dental procedures are explicitly excluded. Dental emergencies are covered only when they constitute a medical emergency previously approved by RACC. No specific dental sublimit is stated; any covered dental emergency would fall under the overall medical expenses limit.

Medical transport and repatriation of the insured

Covered

RACC covers transport costs to the nearest clinic or hospital abroad, inter-hospital transfers as determined by its medical team, and transport or repatriation home when the injured or ill member is discharged. The mode of transport is decided by RACC's medical team based on urgency and severity. No euro cap is stated for this service; it is included as a coordinated service. Transport of companion family members is also covered when applicable.

Source

Medical evacuation

Covered

Medical evacuation is included as part of the medical transport and repatriation benefit. RACC's medical team coordinates the most appropriate means of evacuation (including medically equipped aircraft when necessary) based on the urgency and severity of the case. No separate euro cap is stated. RACC must authorize all evacuations in advance through its 24-hour assistance center.

Repatriation of mortal remains

Covered

If a member or covered family member dies during a trip, RACC handles all formalities at the place of death and arranges transport or repatriation of the body to the place of burial, provided it is within the province of residence. A round-trip ticket for a family member residing in Spain is also provided if the deceased was travelling alone, along with accommodation in up to 3-star hotel for maximum 5 nights. No euro cap is stated; provided as coordinated service. Funeral, coffin and ceremony costs are explicitly excluded.

COVID-19 treatment

Covered

COVID-19 is not explicitly mentioned in any of the three verified policy documents. However, the policies cover sudden illness (enfermedad súbita) occurring abroad without specific disease exclusions for COVID-19, suggesting COVID-19 would be treated as any other sudden illness. Pandemic-related force majeure events are excluded under the general limitations clause.

Pre-existing medical conditions

Excluded

Illnesses or injuries arising from chronic conditions or conditions pre-existing at the time of trip departure, as well as their complications or relapses, are explicitly excluded in all three tiers under the General Exclusions clause. Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

Assistance must be requested within a maximum of 7 days from the date of the incident (medical assistance). For other reimbursement claims, the maximum period is 15 days from the occurrence of the claim. RACC is not responsible for any service or benefit not previously requested through its Central de Alarmas.

Unauthorized treatment

Any medical treatment or service obtained abroad without prior authorization from RACC's Central de Alarmas will not be covered. For reimbursement, all medical expenses abroad must be justified through a medical report previously approved by RACC. Direct treatment without coordination voids coverage for those costs.

Purchase while abroad

Any assistance contracted from abroad after the trip has started is exempt from any coverage. The product must be contracted before the start of the trip. A 48-hour waiting period applies for annual/renewable plans from the contracting date (subject to payment of the corresponding fee).

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases and conditions pre-existing at the start of the trip, as well as their complications or relapses, are excluded from all coverage in all three tiers. Only sudden illnesses (enfermedades súbitas) and accidents occurring during the trip are covered. Any type of chronic or pre-existing psychiatric illness is also excluded.

Pregnancy

Childbirth and full-term pregnancies are excluded. Unforeseeable complications during the first six months of gestation are covered as an exception. Coverage for psychiatric sudden illness is provided only if diagnosed by a specialist and if the health and transport authorities at the destination permit repatriation.

pre_existing_conditions

All illnesses or injuries arising from chronic or pre-existing conditions at the start of the trip, including their complications and relapses, are excluded in all three tiers. Coverage applies exclusively to sudden illnesses and accidents that occur during the covered trip. Stabilization before departure is not sufficient for coverage — the condition must be absent at departure.

coverage_duration_limit

For single-trip (puntual) products the coverage period matches the contracted trip dates. The maximum covered stay per trip is 90 days for Travel Complet, Travel Plus and Travel Premium puntual products (according to the Limitations clause grouping them together). Members must provide irrefutable proof of trip start and end dates via air/train tickets, hotel reservations, meal receipts, etc. Annual multi-trip (RACC Travel) products cover trips of up to 60 days per trip.
