Expenses and services for which prior insurer authorization was not obtained, and for which no prior authorization was requested, may be excluded from reimbursement. Only genuine emergency situations where authorization was materially impossible to obtain beforehand are exempt from this requirement.

The policy must be taken out before the start of the trip. It can be taken out immediately and involves simple formalities, but it must be contracted prior to beginning the journey. Contracting while already abroad is not permitted.

Chronic conditions

Chronic conditions and ailments under medical treatment prior to the start of the trip are explicitly excluded from coverage. Only acute illnesses or accidents that arise during the trip (not pre-existing) are covered.

Pregnancy

Diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of pregnancy, voluntary termination and childbirth are explicitly excluded from coverage. Pregnancy complications are not covered.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Coverage duration limit

Coverage is valid only for trips not exceeding 180 consecutive days per journey or displacement (per the IPID for the standalone policy). Individual trips exceeding 180 consecutive days are excluded. The policy can be taken out for durations from 1 day up to 6 months.

Direct payment

The insurer directly organizes and pays for medical assistance, transport, repatriation and other assistance services when prior authorization has been granted. For expenses incurred without prior insurer authorization, reimbursement applies except in genuine emergencies where prior authorization was materially impossible to obtain.

Territorial scope

Worldwide including Spain; trips must start more than 30 km from the insured's habitual residence and outside their province of residence. Coverages marked 'abroad only' require travel outside Spain. Travel to Ukraine, Russia or Belarus is not recommended.
