Legal defence for the driver in criminal proceedings up to 5,500 EUR per claim is included even in the entry-level COMFORT package.

Roadside assistance with unlimited call-outs (except two battery call-outs per year) is bundled into the cheapest package rather than sold as a costly add-on.

Customers can track their claim status in real time 24/7 through the online 'Status štete' service.

A family member over 27 can take over an existing family bonus-malus discount, and the bonus can be retained after selling the insured vehicle.

Driver restrictions

The insured loses rights under the policy if the driver used the vehicle other than for its intended purpose, lacked a valid driving licence of the appropriate category, had the licence revoked or was banned from driving, was driving under the influence of alcohol above the contracted limit, drugs or other psychoactive substances (or refused testing), caused the damage intentionally, or the damage arose from reckless driving constituting a criminal offence. Allianz still compensates the injured third party but may recover the paid amount from the responsible party, up to the limit set by the Traffic Insurance Act.

Claim notification deadline

The insured must report a claim to Allianz without delay; reporting within 24 hours of the event or of becoming aware of it is recommended, and is mandatory within 24 hours of becoming aware when the event was also reported to the police.

Bonus-malus rules

MTPL premium depends on the policyholder's claims history through a bonus-malus system based on premium classes (1st to 18th class); on first conclusion of a policy, new customers start at the 1st premium class (50% bonus) for passenger cars or the 5th class (30% bonus) for other vehicle categories, with discounts and surcharges ranging between a 50% discount and up to 250% surcharge. Family members over 27 can take over a family bonus, and the bonus can be retained after selling a vehicle or, if bonus protection was purchased, kept at renewal even after a claim.

Territorial scope

Coverage applies in the Republic of Croatia and in the territories of Green Card System member states, which include all EU member states, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and other countries. Roadside assistance is valid in EU member states plus Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, Vatican, the European part of Turkey and the Greek part of Cyprus.
