Djøf Forsikring (insurance brand distributed by Djøf and underwritten by Købstædernes Forsikring, Gensidig)
Djøf Forsikring
Djøf Forsikring is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Djøf Forsikring works with Falck Global Assistance, who can often settle claims directly on-site through their assistance network. It is a condition for cover that any expense is approved by the insurer in advance.
Geographic scope
Europe or Worldwide, as selected by the policyholder
Covers private trips abroad and private domestic Danish holidays of at least 2 nights (limited covers only for Denmark, as medical treatment there is provided by the public healthcare system). Excludes the North Pole, South Pole and Antarctica; excludes areas where the Danish Foreign Ministry or other public authorities advise against travel; excludes war zones, though cover continues for the first 30 days if conflict breaks out after arrival.
Unique selling points
- Medical malpractice cover during the trip up to DKK 500,000 - a benefit rarely offered by competitors.
- Ruined holiday days are compensated at the average daily price of the trip, up to DKK 96,000 in total.
- Covers the rental car/motorcycle/moped excess (deductible) abroad up to DKK 25,000.
- 24/7 emergency assistance worldwide through the dedicated Falck Global Assistance alarm centre.
- Covers a broad household: spouse/partner, children, up to two additional household members (e.g. au pairs), and non-resident children under 21.
Coverage limits
Medical treatment and hospital stay
Covered
Covers reasonable and necessary expenses for treatment by an authorised doctor, doctor-prescribed medicine, and doctor-prescribed hospital stay/treatment for acute illness or injury on the trip; no aggregate cap is stated for the doctor/hospital treatment itself (separate per-person sub-limits of DKK 10,000 each apply to emergency dental treatment and to physiotherapy/chiropractor treatment).
Emergency medical treatment
Covered
Covers treatment by an authorised doctor and doctor-prescribed medicine for acute illness or injury arising during the trip; no cap is stated on the acute treatment itself.
Hospitalization
Covered
Covers doctor-prescribed hospital stay and treatment for acute illness or injury on the trip, plus extra hotel/food expenses from discharge until return home; no aggregate cap is stated.
Outpatient treatment (physiotherapy/chiropractor)
Covered
Doctor consultations for acute illness/injury abroad are covered without a stated cap; treatment by a physiotherapist or chiropractor is covered up to DKK 10,000 per person.
Emergency dental treatment
DKK 10,000
Covers acute pain-relieving dental treatment by an authorised dentist abroad, up to DKK 10,000 per person.
Medical repatriation and transport
Covered
Covers reasonable and necessary expenses for ambulance/sick transport to and from the treatment site, transport home to Denmark by ordinary means, ambulance, or air ambulance, and transport home of an insured under 18 who would otherwise have to travel alone; no aggregate cap is stated.
Evacuation and involuntary stay
DKK 96,000
Covers authority-ordered evacuation (e.g. due to war, natural disaster, epidemic) and involuntary stay: extra transport, accommodation and food costs for up to 3 months, capped at DKK 96,000 in total, plus baggage loss/damage during the evacuation up to DKK 30,000 per person. This is distinct from medically necessary air-ambulance repatriation, which is covered without a stated cap under Hjemtransport og sygetransport.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
Covers repatriation of the deceased to Denmark including legally required measures; if relatives prefer burial or cremation at the location, costs are covered up to the amount a repatriation would have cost. No other specific cap is stated.
Search and rescue
DKK 100,000
Covers reasonable and necessary extra expenses for search within a 50 km radius of the last known location, and for rescue once the location is established, up to DKK 100,000 per person, subject to an aggregate cap of DKK 500,000 across all insured on the policy. Requires the insured to have been missing more than 24 hours, the case to be reported to local police, and the search/rescue to be coordinated by local or Danish authorities.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
The terms and conditions and IPID do not specifically name COVID-19. General acute-illness cover would apply to illness contracted during the trip, but the policy excludes damage arising from entering a country or area affected by an epidemic that requires health-related treatment.
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Worsening of a chronic or pre-existing condition is excluded unless a medical pre-approval (forhåndsgodkendelse) has been obtained before the trip; routine check-ups, treatment, or medication to keep such a condition stable are never covered.
Winter sports cover
Optional
Skiing and snowboarding are covered only if the optional 'Aktiv ferie' (Active Holiday) add-on has been purchased before departure; the add-on must apply to a holiday whose main purpose is the sports activity (a city-break or beach holiday with incidental skiing does not qualify).
Adventure/active sports cover
Optional
Diving, cycling, hunting, sailing and horseback riding are covered as 'Aktiv ferie' if purchased as an add-on before departure. Extreme sports (e.g. paragliding, base jumping, free diving, ultra-running, MMA) are always excluded, regardless of any add-on purchased.
Pregnancy and childbirth complications
Conditional
Childbirth occurring up to 4 weeks before the expected due date is covered as an acute event during the trip. Complications known about, or where a doctor advised against travel, before departure are not covered.
Personal liability
No limit stated
No personal liability (third-party liability) cover is described in the reviewed terms, IPID, or product page for the Årsrejseforsikring; the policy instead covers legal costs/bail for disputes and assault to the insured (see Sikkerhedsstillelse og kaution and Overfald), which are distinct benefits.
Legal assistance / bail (security)
DKK 250,000
Covers, up to DKK 250,000 per legal dispute, lawyer's fees, compensation claims raised against the insured by local authorities, and payment for release if the insured or their luggage is detained by local authorities; bail is an interest-free loan repayable once released by the authorities.
24/7 emergency assistance
Covered
Djøf Forsikring's customers have access to a 24-hour emergency alarm centre operated by Falck Global Assistance, reachable worldwide by phone for acute help such as illness, injury or theft.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
Report a claim to the alarm centre (Falck Global Assistance) or Djøf Forsikring as quickly as possible after it occurs; you must follow their instructions, and it is a condition of cover that the expense is approved by the insurer.
Unauthorized treatment
It is a condition for cover of a claim that the expense has been approved by us; unapproved treatment expenses risk not being reimbursed.
Purchase while abroad
It is a condition for cover under Årsrejse that the insurance has taken effect and been paid for before you depart on your trip; the insurance cannot be taken out once travel has already begun.
Chronic conditions
If you have a chronic illness or pre-existing condition, a medical pre-assessment (forhåndsgodkendelse) may be required before travelling to clarify whether and how you are covered; it is mandatory if you have received treatment, had medication changed, been hospitalised, or missed check-ups related to the condition within 2 months before departure.
Pregnancy
Childbirth occurring up to 4 weeks before the expected due date is covered as acute illness/injury during the trip; complications known before departure, or conditions where a doctor advised against travelling, are not covered.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Worsening of a chronic or existing illness is not covered unless a medical pre-approval has been obtained before the trip; routine check-ups, treatment, or medication to keep a chronic illness stable are never covered.
Coverage duration limit
The insurance covers trips for the number of travel days selected on the policy (30, 60 or 90 days); it does not cover damage occurring after the travel period has expired, though the period is automatically extended if the trip is delayed due to a covered event.
