Direct payment

ERGO Forsikring's own 24/7 alarm centre, ERGO Alarm, can advise on medical questions, refer you to the nearest suitable treatment provider and issue payment guarantees directly to hospitals/clinics on your behalf.

Geographic scope

Selectable at purchase: Extended Europe, Worldwide including USA, or Worldwide excluding USA

The policy does not cover areas where the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel; if such advice is issued while you are already in the area, cover continues for up to 14 days provided you leave/evacuate at the first opportunity.

Unique selling points

  • Rejseforsikring Plus is the insurer's most comprehensive travel policy, uniquely including hjemkald (family recall), ødelagt ferie (ruined-holiday compensation up to DKK 50,000) and ferieboligsikring (holiday-home protection up to DKK 20,000) which the Basis tier does not offer.
  • All customers, regardless of tier, get free 24/7 access to Danish-speaking doctors via Videodoktor.
  • Can be tailored with a choice of geographic zones (Extended Europe, Worldwide including USA, or Worldwide excluding USA) and bought as a single-trip or annual policy covering the whole household.
  • Own dedicated 24/7 alarm centre (ERGO Alarm) can issue payment guarantees directly to hospitals abroad, reducing the need for upfront out-of-pocket payment.
  • Deductible cover for home contents, motor comprehensive and rental-vehicle excess is included as standard in both Basis and Plus, a benefit many competitors charge extra for.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

You must contact ERGO Alarm, the 24/7 emergency helpline, in the event of an emergency; costs for benefits such as home transport, escort/summons of relatives, search and rescue, evacuation, and crisis assistance must be pre-approved by ERGO Forsikring before they are incurred.

Unauthorized treatment

If you do not comply with ERGO Forsikring's decisions on home transport, transfer to another hospital, or its instructions/those of the treating doctor, cover can be reduced or fully lapse, and costs you or others arrange without prior approval that ERGO Forsikring would not itself have incurred are not covered.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance, including any add-on covers, must be purchased no later than the day of departure from your country of residence; it cannot be bought once you are already abroad, and cover begins when the trip starts unless otherwise agreed in advance with ERGO Forsikring.

Chronic conditions

For existing or chronic illnesses, you can and are recommended to apply for medical pre-approval before departure, especially if you have a serious chronic condition, a newly diagnosed condition within 2 months of departure, an unstable condition within 2 months of departure, a complicated pregnancy, or are under investigation without a diagnosis; approval covers only the specific upcoming trip.

Pregnancy

Unexpected illness or complications during pregnancy or birth, including premature birth before week 37 (36+6), are covered under acute illness/injury cover, but costs relating to pregnancy or birth from week 37 (36+6) onward and medically expected birth assistance/complications are excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Cover is excluded if the illness or injury had shown symptoms before departure and/or was diagnosed by a doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor and falls under the pre-existing condition criteria without pre-approval having been obtained, if you failed to seek or completed treatment despite knowing it was needed, or if you are listed for or awaiting investigation/treatment.

Coverage duration limit

This single-trip policy (Enkeltrejseforsikring Plus) is valid for the period stated on the policy, but you must not have been away from your Nordic country of residence for more than 2 years.
