Direct payment

If the repair is entrusted to a partner repairer, MAIF pays the indemnity directly to the repairer; if the insured chooses a non-partner repairer, the indemnity is paid to the insured.

Geographic scope

Metropolitan France, French overseas departments and Monaco

Full coverage in metropolitan France, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Monaco, Saint-Barthélemy and the French part of Saint-Martin; in EEA countries and other green-card countries, cover applies for vehicles registered in France or Monaco except personalized legal information and legal protection (recourse limited to amicable settlement); Morocco and Tunisia only for stays up to one year; French Guiana and other overseas collectivities (except Saint-Barthélemy/Saint-Martin) are not covered.

Unique selling points

  • Property damage liability is covered up to €100,000,000 with no cap at all on bodily injury liability to third parties.
  • Theft cover, including electronic relay-attack theft without visible forced entry, is included from the Essentiel tier rather than only in top-tier formulas.
  • In the Plénitude formula, MAIF reimburses the leasing company in full for a stolen or written-off financed vehicle with no shortfall to the policyholder (beyond the deductible), and returns the initial down payment.
  • Repairs carried out following a covered claim benefit from a lifetime workmanship warranty.
  • MAIF Assistance is reachable 24/7 by phone, with a dedicated SMS line for hearing-impaired policyholders.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Full cover in metropolitan France, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Monaco, Saint-Barthélemy and French Saint-Martin; extended (minus personalized legal advice/legal protection, recourse limited to amicable settlement) to EEA and other green-card countries for French/Monaco-registered vehicles; Morocco/Tunisia limited to stays of one year; no cover in French Guiana or other overseas collectivities.

Green card rules

For vehicles registered in France or Monaco, cover extends to EEA countries and other countries on the international motor insurance card (except personalized legal information and legal protection, recourse limited to amicable settlement); Morocco/Tunisia only for stays up to one year; vehicles registered elsewhere have no cover abroad.

Driver restrictions

The driver must hold a valid driving licence or required capacity certificate matching the vehicle category; unauthorised use may lead MAIF to invoke nullity or reduce indemnities; cover is maintained for accompanied/supervised learner drivers (AAC) if MAIF was informed beforehand and applicable rules were respected.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be reported within 5 working days of becoming aware of the event (30 days for natural catastrophe events); late notification can cause forfeiture of cover if it prejudices MAIF, except in cases of fortuitous event or force majeure.

Bonus-malus rules

Standard French bonus-malus clause: origin coefficient of 1; reduced 5% (7% for 'Tournées'/'Tous déplacements' use) per claim-free year down to a 0.50 floor; each at-fault claim raises the coefficient by 25% (20% for 'Tournées'/'Tous déplacements'), halved for partial liability, capped at 3.50.
