Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies in France and while travelling in EU member states, plus Andorra, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, the United Kingdom, Serbia and Switzerland; extension to Albania, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine requires the insurer's prior approval and the international green card.
Green card rules
Matmut issues the international motor insurance card (green card) for the account of the Bureau Central Français, enabling circulation in countries where the mention is not crossed out; it also serves as proof of insurance in France and must be presented to the authorities on request.
Driver restrictions
Cover applies to drivers meeting the age and licence requirements for the vehicle (Article 7-5 B); a specific €1,000 deductible applies when the vehicle is driven by an undesignated 'novice driver' (licence held less than 2 years, or without 2 years of insurance history), unless exempted (subscriber's staff, another Matmut policy, guidon-lending).
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported as soon as you become aware of them: within 5 working days for material or bodily-injury accidents, 2 working days for theft, and within 30 days of the official disaster order for natural catastrophes (Article 26-2); Protection Juridique claims must be declared within 5 working days (Articles 23-9, 24-10). Late notification causing prejudice to the insurer may result in forfeiture of cover.
Bonus-malus rules
A bonus-malus coefficient applies annually: a claim-free year reduces the coefficient by 5% (7% for 'Tournées'/'Tous déplacements' use) down to a floor of 0.50; each at-fault claim increases it by 25% (20% for those uses, halved for partial liability), up to a ceiling of 3.50; the coefficient cannot exceed 1 after two consecutive claim-free years (Annexe I).
