Direct payment
Europ Assistance can advance hospitalisation costs abroad and the criminal bail bond abroad, both repayable by the insured within 30 days of receiving the invoice; prior agreement from Europ Assistance is required before the insured incurs any expense or takes any initiative, failing which reimbursement may be refused.

Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
Policyholders must obtain Europ Assistance's prior agreement before taking any initiative or incurring expenses. Claims must be declared within 2 business days of becoming aware of the event for theft under the Baggage guarantee, and within 5 business days for all other guarantees; late declaration can cause loss of benefit if it caused prejudice to the insurer.
Unauthorized treatment
If Europ Assistance triggers an intervention due to insufficient or inaccurate information, the costs incurred are re-invoiced to the policyholder. If the insured refuses to follow the course of action deemed most appropriate by Europ Assistance's doctors, the insurer is discharged of all responsibility, including in the event of a self-organised return or a worsening of health.
Purchase while abroad
The effective date of cover cannot precede the date of subscription. If the covered stay has already begun at the time of subscription, a 3-day waiting period applies from the day after subscription, during which the consequences of any event are not covered.
Chronic conditions
Health conditions, illnesses or injuries diagnosed and/or treated with continuous, day-case or outpatient hospitalisation within the 6 months preceding the assistance request are not covered, whether this is the onset or the worsening of the condition.
Pregnancy
Requests related to medically assisted procreation or voluntary termination of pregnancy are excluded. Carriers may impose specific restrictions on pregnant travellers up to the time of transport, and repatriation of a pregnant insured is subject to the carrier not refusing and to no unfavourable medical opinion regarding the health of the mother or the unborn child.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
An event cannot be covered if it originates from a health condition, illness or injury diagnosed and/or treated with continuous, day-case or outpatient hospitalisation in the 6 months before the assistance request, whether concerning the occurrence or the aggravation of that condition.
