Regulatory updates
In 2024 Barmenia merged with Gothaer to form the BarmeniaGothaer group; the merger was approved by the Bundeskartellamt on 18 March 2024 and by BaFin on 26 August 2024, with the combination formally completed via commercial register entry on 4 September 2024. In early 2025 it was reported that a BaFin 'Wohlverhaltensprüfung' (conduct review) criticized the limited customer benefit of Barmenia's fund-linked pension products, prompting Barmenia to withdraw these policies from the market shortly before the merger closed. BaFin has also continued to publish routine notices regarding Barmenia's cross-border services and corporate restructuring (e.g., a 2019 spin-off of Barmenia Krankenversicherung a.G.'s operating business into Barmenia Krankenversicherung AG).
