Balcia Insurance SE is a Latvia-based non-life insurance company, established in Latvia in 1993 under the name Baltijas Transporta apdrošināšana, later known as brand BTA, before its Baltic portfolio was split off in 2015 and the remaining entity was rebranded as Balcia Insurance SE. Unlike the separate BTA Baltic Insurance Company (which is owned by Vienna Insurance Group), Balcia Insurance SE is a privately owned Latvian insurer offering motor, property, travel, accident and liability insurance products via an online subscription model across Latvia and several other European markets.

Regulatory updates
Balcia Insurance SE remains an active, licensed non-life insurer on the Latvijas Banka supervisory register, holding licences covering motor third-party liability (OCTA), CASCO, accident, health, travel, property, general and commercial civil liability, suretyship and other non-life classes. Following the integration of the former Financial and Capital Market Commission (FKTK) into Latvijas Banka on 1 January 2023, Balcia is supervised directly by Latvijas Banka's Financial and Capital Market Supervision Department. In 2025-2026 Balcia was involved in a public dispute with the Latvian Motor Insurers' Bureau (LTAB) over a competition-related fine and mandatory guarantee-fund contributions, which the company argued was unfair to policyholders; a related administrative court case (SKA-32/2025) concerning Balcia's admission fee dispute with LTAB was subsequently discontinued after the Finance Ministry ruled part of the admission decision unlawful. Balcia was also among the first insurers to issue mandatory OCTA policies for e-scooters when this requirement took effect on 1 July 2025.
