HEMA is a Dutch variety retail chain founded in 1926 in Amsterdam. Through HEMA Financial Services B.V. it operated an insurance brokerage brand (HEMA Verzekeringen / verzekerdbijHEMA.nl) that acted as an intermediary, not a risk carrier, offering non-life policies underwritten by Achmea/InShared and health insurance underwritten by Menzis. HEMA has since fully exited the insurance business, transferring its property & casualty book to InShared in February 2024 and its health insurance book to Menzis effective 1 January 2025.

Regulatory updates
HEMA Financial Services B.V. has ceased its insurance intermediary activities in the Netherlands. As of 26 February 2024, all HEMA-branded property & casualty insurance (car, moped, home, pet, travel, bicycle, motorcycle, liability, legal expense, scooter, contents, buildings, caravan and accident insurance) was transferred to InShared (Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V.). As of 1 January 2025, HEMA also stopped selling its health insurance (HEMA Zorgverzekering), with policyholders automatically moved to Menzis, which had been the underlying risk carrier since 2014. Kifid's register lists HEMA Financial Services B.V. with an entry for 'Intrekking AFM vergunning' (withdrawal of the AFM licence), consistent with HEMA's full exit from regulated insurance intermediary activities.
