Allianz – Slovenská poisťovňa, a. s. (Allianz – SP) is the largest universal insurance company in Slovakia, operating in both life and non-life insurance segments. Its roots date back to 1919 and it was formally established in its current form on 1 January 2003 following the merger of Allianz poisťovňa and Slovenská poisťovňa. It belongs to the Allianz SE insurance group and serves clients through a network of 23 branches and over 100 agency offices across Slovakia.

AXA Assistance is part of the international AXA Group and has operated on the Slovak insurance market since 1998, focusing on assistance services, travel insurance, foreigners' health insurance, and vehicle/legal assistance products.

BNP Paribas Cardif Poisťovňa, a.s. is the Slovak subsidiary of the French BNP Paribas Cardif insurance group, established in Slovakia in 2000 as the country's first specialized bancassurance company; it distributes payment protection, creditor, card-misuse, extended warranty, mobile device, GAP and travel insurance products mainly through bank, retailer and telecom partners.

Colonnade Insurance S.A. is a non-life insurer operating in Slovakia through a branch, offering property, liability, accident, travel and motor-related (GAP) insurance products for individuals and businesses; it traces its Slovak roots to the Slovak Investment Insurance Company founded in 1991, later operated as QBE, and rebranded as Colonnade in 2016 after being acquired by Canada's Fairfax Financial Holdings.

ČSOB Poisťovňa, a.s. is a universal insurance company and member of the ČSOB Financial Group in Slovakia, offering a wide range of life and non-life insurance products to individuals, entrepreneurs, and corporate clients. It was founded in 1992 as ERGO poisťovňa and renamed in 2002 after acquisition by KBC Insurance NV.

Europ Assistance is the world's first assistance company, founded in Paris in 1963; it provides car, travel, home and health assistance services and travel/roadside insurance products, and has served the Slovak market since 2001 through its Prague-based Czech entity, as a 100% subsidiary of the Generali Group.

Európska cestovná poisťovňa ("Európska") is a specialized travel insurance brand operating in Slovakia since 2006, originally a branch of the Austrian insurer Europäische Reiseversicherung AG founded in 1907; it became part of Generali Poisťovňa in 2014 and, since 19 December 2021, operates as a trademark used by Generali Poisťovňa, branch of Generali Česká pojišťovna, a.s. (member of the Italian Generali Group).

Generali Poisťovňa is one of the top three insurers in Slovakia, operating as a branch of Generali Česká pojišťovna a.s. since December 2021. It is a universal insurer offering both life and non-life insurance products for individuals and businesses, and is part of the Italian Generali Group.

Genertel is the first fully online insurer in Slovakia, operating since 2010 as a branch/trademark used by Generali Poisťovňa. It focuses on non-life retail insurance sold exclusively via internet and telephone, including motor liability, collision (kasko), theft, property and travel insurance.

KOOPERATIVA poisťovňa, a.s. Vienna Insurance Group is the first private universal insurance company in Slovakia, founded in 1990. It offers over 60 life and non-life insurance products to individuals and businesses, serving nearly 1.5 million clients, and is the market leader on the Slovak insurance market.

KOMUNÁLNA poisťovňa, a.s. Vienna Insurance Group is a universal insurance company operating in Slovakia since 1994, providing insurance services primarily to municipalities, cities, private individuals and businesses. It is part of the Vienna Insurance Group, the leading insurance group in Central and Eastern Europe. The company offers a broad portfolio of life, accident, property, motor, travel and liability insurance products.

MetLife has been operating in Slovakia since 1995 (originally as PRVÁ AMERICKO-SLOVENSKÁ POISŤOVŇA / Amslico), became part of MetLife Inc. in 2010, and rebranded fully to MetLife in 2015. It operates through two Irish-incorporated branches and offers life, accident and travel insurance to individuals and businesses, holding close to a 10% share of the Slovak life insurance market with over 500,000 clients.

Pillow pojišťovna (marketed as mypillow.sk/pillow.sk) is a fully digital Czech non-life insurer that entered the Slovak market in November 2023, offering vehicle insurance priced according to actual mileage driven and split profit-sharing with clients.

NN Životná poisťovňa, a.s. is a life insurance and pension savings specialist operating in Slovakia since 1996, formerly known as Nationale-Nederlanden and ING. It is part of the international NN Group and is the third-largest life insurer and the market leader in pension savings in Slovakia. The NN brand in Slovakia covers NN Životná poisťovňa, a.s. (life insurance), NN dôchodková správcovská spoločnosť, a.s. (2nd pillar pension), NN Tatry – Sympatia, d.d.s., a.s. (3rd pillar pension), and NN Finančné služby, s.r.o. (financial intermediation).

Union poisťovňa is a universal Slovak insurer founded in 1992, offering a wide range of life, non-life and travel insurance products for individuals and companies; since 1997 it has been a subsidiary of the Dutch insurance group Achmea B.V. (formerly Eureko).

UNIQA is a universal insurer operating in Slovakia as a branch of UNIQA pojišťovna, a.s. (Czech Republic) since 2021, following the merger with AXA. It offers a wide range of life and non-life insurance products and holds an approximately 10.85% overall market share in Slovakia. Its history dates to 1990 as Poisťovňa OTČINA, later renamed UNIQA in 2001.

Wüstenrot poisťovňa, a.s. is a universal-license insurer in Slovakia, part of the German-Austrian Wüstenrot financial group, offering life and non-life insurance products together with its sister company Wüstenrot stavebná sporiteľňa.
