Territorial scope | The insurance covers in Europe and in countries outside Europe that are members of the Green Card scheme. Roadside assistance (Vejhjælp) covers all of Denmark except Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and the rest of Europe under special terms (section 15.3). In Green Card countries, the minimum coverage is the sum applicable for driving in Denmark. | The policy covers Denmark (excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands) and all countries that are members of the Green Card system (as listed on codan.dk). Roadside assistance (Vejhjælp) covers Denmark only. Kasko and Delkasko cover international claims on the same terms as Denmark, provided the damage is not covered by another foreign insurance. | The policy covers in Denmark and in all countries participating in the Green Card scheme (Grøntkortordningen). When driving outside Denmark in Green Card countries, the policy covers according to the host country's legislation on compensation amounts, but at minimum with the amounts applicable to driving in Denmark. The Green Card is proof of third-party insurance when driving outside Europe. It is not required within EU borders, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Andorra and Serbia. If a separate foreign-driving insurance has been purchased, the car insurance is subsidiary. The Stilstand (parked/off-road) coverage only covers in Denmark. | The MTPL covers Denmark and all countries participating in the Green Card scheme. In each country the coverage applies with the minimum sums prescribed by that country's law. For Delkasko, Kasko and optional add-ons, foreign coverage only applies during holiday trips of up to 8 consecutive weeks. If other insurance has been purchased for driving abroad, the present policy applies to the extent not covered by the other insurance. |
Green card rules | In countries where the Green Card scheme or another international agreement applies, the insurance covers according to those countries' laws, but at minimum with the sums applicable for driving in Denmark. In other countries, the insurance also covers with the Danish sums (section 2.3). The list of Green Card countries is available at almbrand.dk/groentkort. | The Green Card is the international proof of mandatory liability insurance. Coverage in each Green Card country is at least equivalent to the Danish statutory minimum amounts. The Red Card (det røde kort), issued via SOS International A/S, governs rescue insurance abroad for Kasko and Delkasko policyholders and is available via app or printout at codan.dk before travelling abroad. | The Green Card (Grønt kort) is proof of third-party liability insurance when driving outside Europe. It is not necessary to carry the Green Card within EU borders, nor in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Andorra and Serbia. The Green Card can be ordered at gjensidige.dk. When driving abroad in Green Card countries, the policy covers at least the Danish statutory liability limits. | The Green Card confirms that the vehicle has at least the minimum statutory third-party liability coverage required by each member country of the Green Card scheme. The insurer covers the sums required in each respective country when driving abroad. An overview of Green Card countries is available at if.dk. |
Driver restrictions | The insurance covers the policyholder and any person driving the vehicle with the policyholder's permission. A minimum deductible of DKK 6,324 (2019-index) applies for kasko claims where the driver is under 25 years old, unless the policyholder is a business and the driver is an employee or owner. Motor racing, track days, and private rental are excluded (sections 1.3.1–1.3.2). | The policy covers the policyholder and any person using the vehicle with the policyholder's permission. If the policy price is calculated based on a regular driver aged 26 or over and a driver under 26 causes a claim, an additional excess applies. Workshop employees driving the vehicle for repairs, service, or test drives in the policyholder's interest are also covered. Commercial goods transport and rental without a driver are excluded. | The policy does not cover damage that occurs while the vehicle is driven by a person who is under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or similar. Coverage is also excluded for damage caused intentionally, with gross negligence or by conduct that can be characterised as gross recklessness. Damage occurring while the vehicle is driven by a person without a valid driving licence is not covered, unless it can be demonstrated that the damage was not caused by lack of driving skill. An exception applies if the policyholder, their spouse/partner, home-dwelling children or regular user was not driving the vehicle and was not aware of the situation, and such unawareness was not due to gross negligence. | The policy covers the policyholder and any person using the vehicle with the policyholder's permission. Workshops and others with the vehicle for repair or service are covered for driving damage when driving in the policyholder's interest (e.g. test drive). Damage caused intentionally or with gross negligence (FAL §18), while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (FAL §20), or while driving without a valid licence is excluded – unless caused by a third party unaware of these circumstances. |
Claim notification deadline | All claims must be reported to Alm. Brand as soon as possible. Theft, robbery, and vandalism must also be reported to the police immediately. Minor repairs may be started if it would be unlawful or irresponsible to continue driving without them, but Alm. Brand's consent is required before any agreement on compensation or repair is made (section 1.5). | All claims must be reported to Codan immediately (straks). Theft, robbery, and vandalism must also be reported to the police immediately. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day by calling 33 55 55 55. Repair agreements and compensation settlements must be approved by Codan in advance, except for minor emergency repairs that cannot be delayed. | Damage or claims covered by the insurance must be reported to Gjensidige immediately (straks) with as comprehensive information and documentation as possible. Claims can be reported online via MinSide at gjensidige.dk or by calling 70 10 90 09. In the event of theft, robbery or vandalism, the incident must also be reported to the police; failure to do so may result in reduction or forfeiture of the right to compensation. Repairs must not be carried out without prior agreement with Gjensidige, except for minor repairs where it would be illegal or irresponsible to continue driving and the journey cannot be postponed. | Damage must be reported as soon as possible at if.dk or by calling 70 12 12 12. Do not discard or repair damaged items before If has approved this (preliminary repairs may be made if necessary to prevent serious consequences). For crimes such as theft or vandalism, the damage must also be reported to the police in the country where it occurred, and a copy sent to If. Limitation periods follow the general rules of the Insurance Contracts Act. |
Bonus malus rules | The insurance has a fixed price tier system. If driving claim-free, the policyholder automatically moves to a cheaper tier each year until reaching the cheapest tier (elite). After a claim, the policyholder remains on the current tier for one additional year instead of advancing. Policyholders on the elite tier stay there even after a claim. Certain claim types do not trigger a tier hold (friskade): fire, lightning, explosion, theft, robbery, serial vandalism, or objects falling on the car, provided kasko is held (section 1.9). | Codan does not operate a traditional bonus-malus (no-claims discount) system where prices automatically increase after a claim. However, pricing is continuously reviewed. Customers aged 25 or over with a minimum of 3 years of claim-free driving qualify for 'Elitebilist' status, granting a better price from the first day of coverage at the next policy anniversary. If a claim occurs, an additional year is added to the qualifying period. Certain claim types (e.g. roadside assistance claims, legal defence claims, windscreen chip repairs) do not count toward the Elitebilist qualification period. | The policy documentation references an elite driver (elitebilist) status classification that provides lower premiums. Drivers aged 28 or older automatically receive elite driver status from the first day of the policy without requiring a claims-free history. Premiums, sums insured and deductibles may be index-adjusted annually at the policy's main renewal date using the hourly wage index published by Danmarks Statistik (Q1 of the prior year). If the average annual mileage at the time of a driving-related claim exceeds the amount agreed in the policy, the right to compensation may lapse in whole or in part in accordance with the Danish Insurance Contracts Act. For liability claims where the driver is wholly or partially at fault, Gjensidige may exercise subrogation. | Denmark does not have a centralised statutory bonus-malus system; each insurer applies its own merit-rating independently. If uses 8 pricing tiers (trin 1–8), where tier 1 is the most expensive and tier 8 (Elitebilist) is the cheapest. After each claim-free insurance year the policyholder advances one tier at annual renewal (hovedforfald). A qualifying claim (belastende skade) causes the tier to remain unchanged for an additional year (total two years at the same tier). Roadside assistance costs, legal defence costs, damages caused by an identified at-fault party, serial vandalism (seriehærværk), and damages incurred while the vehicle was entrusted to a new owner or workshop are not counted as qualifying claims. |

Direct payment policy | Alm. Brand pays damages directly to the repair shop; the policyholder is responsible for paying the deductible to Alm. Brand when applicable. | Codan pays approved repair workshops directly for covered repairs; cash compensation is paid to the policyholder's NemKonto. For third-party liability claims, Codan settles directly with the injured party. | Gjensidige pays repair costs directly to workshops that are Gjensidige partner workshops. For third-party liability claims, Gjensidige handles the claim and pays compensation directly to the injured party. Customers must pre-approve all repairs with Gjensidige before work commences. | Claims must be reported as soon as possible via if.dk or by calling 70 12 12 12 (24/7). If uses NemKonto for paying out compensation. Deductible is either deducted from the compensation or invoiced separately. If a payment agreement is in place, deductibles are collected via that agreement. |
