Regulatory updates
Effective January 2, 2024, BaFin granted Zurich Insurance Europe AG (ZIE) a full operating license after it completed a cross-border conversion from Zurich Insurance plc (an Irish entity) to a German Aktiengesellschaft (AG), with its head office moved to Frankfurt am Main. Concurrently, BaFin approved the spin-off of Zurich Life Legacy Versicherung AG (Deutschland) from Zurich Deutscher Herold Lebensversicherung AG in early 2024, though an attempted portfolio sale to run-off specialist Viridium was blocked by BaFin in January 2024. Zurich Insurance plc simultaneously ceased its cross-border service business in Germany.
