Regulatory updates
In February 2018 the MNB fined SIGNAL IDUNA Biztosító Zrt. a total of HUF 53 million (HUF 40 million supervisory and HUF 13 million consumer-protection fines) following a comprehensive inspection covering outsourcing, corporate governance, record-keeping, data reporting, IT, accounting and customer information deficiencies, and it was the first case where the MNB also established a breach of the ethical insurance sales code effective since 2017. A further MNB review closed in 2021 (decision H-JÉ-II-B-53/2021) found that the insurer had inaccurately managed its MTPL and unit-linked life insurance contract portfolio and claims settlement processes, citing missing deadlines in claims handling procedures and IT security record-keeping shortcomings.
