Overview
ADAC Versicherung AG is the insurance arm of Germany's largest automobile club, ADAC. Founded in 1972 as ADAC Schutzbrief-Versicherungs AG, it grew from providing travel assistance cover into a broad insurance group offering travel, health, liability, accident and legal protection products. Motor insurance (car, motorcycle, caravan/motorhome, moped, classic-car and electric-car cover) is underwritten by the sister company ADAC Autoversicherung AG, while the Zuhause-Schutzbrief and home contents insurance are underwritten by the sister company ADAC Zuhause Versicherung AG.

Regulatory updates
As a licensed German insurer, ADAC Versicherung AG is supervised by BaFin. Recent BaFin filings show that in March 2025 ADAC Versicherung AG discontinued its direct cross-border insurance business in Liechtenstein under freedom of services. Separately, in June 2024 BaFin granted a new license to ADAC Zuhause Versicherung AG (a joint venture in which Allianz Versicherungs-AG holds 51% and ADAC Versicherung AG 49%) to write fire, natural hazard and assistance business, enabling the launch of the ADAC Zuhause-Schutzbrief and home contents products.
